Job Purpose Statement The purpose of the “Counselor – Elementary School” position is to provide information, recommendations, and plans that facilitate students’ successful transition to middle school, support their individual goals, and secure appropriate placement of students. This 0.7 FTE position works Monday – Friday. The ideal candidate will collaborate effectively with staff members, maintain regular and clear communication with parents, and deliver social skills instruction to individual students and small groups. Employees will receive vacation leave, paid holidays, and additional compensation beyond their base salary as outlined in their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Essential Job Functions Coordinate with teachers, resource specialists, and community partners (e.g., courts, child protective services, etc.) to provide requested information, obtain needed data, and make recommendations. Provide counseling to students, parents, and guardians to enhance student success in school. Monitor student records to develop plans and provide information regarding student goals. Prepare documentation (e.g., observations, progress notes, contacts with parents, teachers, outside professionals, etc.) to provide written support, develop recommendations, and convey information. Present information on various topics (e.g., behavior management, Second Steps, etc.) to provide required information and/or advice. Assist other personnel as required to support them in PBIS‑related activities. Essential Job Requirements – Qualifications Strong communication skills and problem‑solving ability. Knowledge of curriculum, education code, district policies, and problem‑solving methodology. Ability to sit for prolonged periods, maintain and verify completeness of records, meet schedules and deadlines, and communicate with people of varied cultural and educational backgrounds in oral and written form. Required licenses, certifications, bonding, and/or testing: criminal‑justice fingerprint clearance and appropriate credential.
