Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Poultry Care Supervisor to oversee the daily work of Poultry Care Attendants and lead flock-care activities for pullets and/or laying hens.

This position is responsible for coordinating schedules, assigning work, monitoring bird care, supporting vaccinations and bird moves, overseeing feeding and housing systems, maintaining accurate records, and helping ensure animal welfare, biosecurity, safety, and production procedures are followed consistently.

The Poultry Care Supervisor also supports the Poultry Production Manager by providing employees with effective coaching, performance feedback, and day-to-day direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule, assign, and manage daily tasks for Poultry Care Attendants.
  • Review and approve employee timecards.
  • Supervise employees to ensure pullets and/or laying hens are handled properly and humanely.
  • Monitor poultry housing systems, including:
    • Feed
    • Lighting
    • Airflow and ventilation
    • Water
    • Sanitation
    • Other flock-management systems
  • Confirm that housing and production systems are operating correctly.
  • Ensure established poultry husbandry procedures and work processes are followed.
  • Monitor flock health and remain current on accepted animal-care practices and methods.
  • Lead by example and identify opportunities to improve poultry-care practices.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and communicate concerns to the appropriate safety personnel.
  • Support and encourage employees while maintaining respectful working relationships.
  • Review mortality records and chore checklists for accuracy and completion.
  • Keep required paperwork, flock records, and production documentation current.
  • Order supplies as needed.
  • Assist with bird weighing, vaccinations, and flock moves when required.
  • Schedule appropriate staffing and support for bird-handling activities.
  • Assist with monitoring AEI, PMSI, Pulse, and related control systems.
  • Respond to alarms when assigned.
  • Coordinate with processing personnel to monitor and control egg flow.
  • Provide employees with coaching, direction, and performance feedback.
  • Communicate flock, farm, animal-health, and production concerns to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of animal-welfare standards and biosecurity practices.

  • High degree of initiative and sound judgment.
  • Strong ethics and integrity.
  • Ability to work effectively with production, processing, safety, and site-management teams.
  • Comfortable using current technology.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Commitment to continued professional growth and development.

Regulatory and Industry Knowledge

General knowledge of applicable standards and requirements is preferred, including:

  • Safe Quality Food requirements
  • OSHA standards
  • HACCP procedures
  • FDA requirements
  • USDA requirements
  • Animal-care standards
  • Applicable egg-production and certification program requirements

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of two years of poultry-care experience required.
  • Two years of relevant leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Associate degree in Animal Science or a related field is a plus.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Sit, stand, and walk.
  • Talk, see, and hear.
  • Lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Use close vision and work at a computer monitor.
  • Work long or irregular hours when operational needs require them.

Work Environment

This position is performed in a farm and agricultural environment. Employees may frequently be exposed to:

  • Dust and dirt associated with agricultural operations.
  • Odors associated with poultry farming.
  • Elevated noise levels from farm machinery and equipment.
  • Poultry housing areas and changing farm conditions.

Employees must follow all required animal-welfare, biosecurity, food-safety, and workplace-safety procedures.
