About This Role

Under the School-Age Directors' supervision, the Recreation Leader will be responsible for planning and implementing educational and recreational activities for school-age children. The Recreation Leader must ensure the development and safety of children in care and adhere to the Northeast Youth Center’s policies and procedures. The Recreation Leader must be able to lead by example utilizing quality core values daily while demonstrating a respectful posture to the children, parents/guardians, staff, and the community they serve.

• Plan, implement, and supervise school-age youth in a fast-paced program.
• Maintain records for attendance, permission waivers, and activity information.
• Drive within all policies and procedures of the State of Washington and city requirements in the best interest and safety of the patrons daily. (must have a cleaning driving record and be licensed for at least 5 years)
• Ensure children are always supervised.
• Provide various experiences and activities for children including songs, games, storytelling, and crafts.
• Build children’s esteem by providing a safe and secure environment. Provide positive guidance.
• Ensure daily that equipment and facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
• Maintain records for attendance.
• Provide children with enriching experiences.
• Follow routines and provide positive guidance.
• Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable.
• Implement positive discipline when required.
• Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.
• Promote literacy and early education.
• Follow proper closing procedures when needed.
• Assist in duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Core Team.
• Van training (must have a safe driving record and be licensed for at least 5 years).
• Other duties as assigned.

• High energy.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
• An understanding of child development.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
• Valid Food Handlers Permit
• A valid driver's license with 5 years of safe driving history.
• Auto Insurance
• Must pass a criminal history/child abuse information check, including the Department of Early Learning
• Pre-employment tuberculin skin test.

• Two-year degree in Early Childhood Education, or pursuit of a four-year degree (or related field).
