The Electrical Service Technician diagnoses, repairs, maintains, and upgrades residential electrical systems while providing professional, dependable customer service.

Essential Responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve electrical problems, including loss of power, tripping breakers, faulty outlets, lighting issues, and wiring defects.
• Repair, replace, and install wiring, outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, ceiling fans, circuit breakers, and related components within training, qualifications, and authorization.
• Service and upgrade electrical panels, circuits, grounding, bonding, and surge protection systems as assigned.
• Inspect electrical systems, identify safety concerns, and recommend appropriate repairs or improvements.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, equipment instructions, and electrical drawings.
• Use appropriate testing instruments to evaluate electrical conditions and verify completed work.
• Explain findings, pricing, and repair or replacement options clearly so customers can make informed decisions.
• Obtain customer approval before beginning work or changing the approved scope.
• Complete work according to applicable electrical codes, manufacturer instructions, permit requirements, and company standards.
• Coordinate required inspections and communicate unresolved concerns to management.
• Follow electrical safety procedures, including de-energizing equipment, applying required lockout/tagout controls, and verifying a safe work condition before repairs.
• Perform energized testing only within qualifications and approved safety procedures.
• Use required protective equipment and promptly report hazards, damaged equipment, or incidents.
• Protect customers’ property, maintain a clean work area, and remove job-related debris.
• Complete accurate service records, estimates, invoices, photographs, and job notes using company software.
• Maintain an organized service vehicle, tools, testing instruments, equipment, and inventory.
• Safely operate company vehicles while traveling between service locations.
• Communicate with dispatch and management about job progress, scheduling, materials, and follow-up needs.
• Participate in technical training, customer service training, and team meetings.
• Reduce preventable callbacks through thorough diagnoses, quality workmanship, and complete testing.

Qualifications

• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and installing residential electrical systems.
• Working knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring methods, grounding, bonding, and applicable electrical codes.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and use electrical testing instruments safely and accurately.
• Electrical licenses, registrations, or certifications required by the jurisdiction and assigned scope of work.
• Ability to recognize electrical hazards and follow appropriate safety procedures.
• Strong customer service, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to explain technical findings and service options in straightforward language.
• Ability to use mobile devices and service management software.
• Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements for operating company vehicles.
• Willingness to complete ongoing training and maintain credentials required for assigned work.
• Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the team.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The position generally involves:

• Working in customers’ homes, attics, crawl spaces, basements, and outdoor equipment areas.
• Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching while performing electrical service work.
• Using ladders and accessing equipment in areas with limited space.
• Lifting, carrying, and positioning tools, materials, and equipment, with appropriate assistance or lifting equipment when needed.
• Exposure to varying temperatures, weather, noise, dust, and electrical hazards.
• Traveling between service locations and participating in evening, weekend, or on-call coverage as required by the assigned schedule.
