Recreation Coordinator - Outdoor Programs

Responsibilities Oversees the development, scheduling and implementation of recreation programs; Works with associated divisions and departments to promote and advertise programs and events; Develops and updates outdoor recreation facility rules, policies and procedures and publishes associated materials and manuals; Maintains accurate records of program revenues, attendance and operating costs; Regularly evaluates fees for fee‑based programs and provides recommendations for adjustments; Works with community organizations and contracted instructors in planning and organizing recreation; Assists the Recreation Manager in supporting the development of the budget and manages the division budget within the department; Assists the Recreation Manager with developing short‑ and long‑term goals, objectives and operating procedures for the recreation division; Issues and processes purchase orders for equipment purchases and approves purchases up to $3,000 without supervisor approval; Performs regular inventory of outdoor recreation equipment and supplies; Develops and updates multi‑generational programs that build partnerships and work across multiple City departments; Works closely with the public and community organizations; Coordinates and conducts special projects and programs as assigned; Performs other related duties as may be assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation administration, Physical Education, or a closely related degree; Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the supervision, operation, and management of recreation facilities and programs; or an equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of outdoor recreation program planning; risk management; personnel procedures and policies; budgeting and purchasing procedures; and techniques for working effectively with community organizations. Skill/Ability to supervise and motivate employees and volunteers; demonstrate proficient oral and written communication; promote outdoor recreation activities and events; budget for outdoor recreation programs and supplies; maintain accurate records of athletic facility revenue, attendance and operational costs; maintain athletic facility inventory; develop a preventive maintenance program; establish and administer athletic facility rules and policies; manage emergency situations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Department staff, community organizations and groups, and the general public; and advertise and promote outdoor recreation programs.
