Indirect Tax Associate

Position:

The indirect tax associate supports the company's indirect tax compliance and reporting obligations by preparing and filing  required tax returns, tax registrations, and power of attorney forms; maintaining tax calendars; analyzing and reconciling tax data; coordinating payment coding; and assisting with tax notice resolution.  The role helps ensure accurate, timely, and compliant indirect tax processes in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external service providers.

Responsibilities: 

• Tax Compliance: Manage multi-state indirect tax compliance activities, including the preparation, review, filing, and payment of indirect tax returns. Ensure timely and accurate compliance with state and local tax requirements, including sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, business and occupation tax, commercial activity tax, and other indirect taxes as applicable. Maintain the indirect tax compliance calendar, monitor filing deadlines, track tax payments, and ensure all statutory obligations are met;
• Tax Accounting: Perform indirect tax account analyses and reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and completeness of tax-related financial records. Prepare and maintain appropriate account coding for indirect tax payments and support month-end and year-end close activities. Maintain documentation supporting tax accounting entries, reconciliations, and audit requests, ensuring compliance with internal controls and accounting standards;
• Data Analysis: Analyze large financial and transactional data sets to determine indirect tax liabilities, identify variances, trends, and exceptions, and support the preparation of indirect tax returns. Utilize Excel, SAP, tax compliance software, and other analytical tools to extract, validate, reconcile, and summarize data. Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of source data used for tax compliance, reporting, and audit support;
• Other Regulatory Compliance: Prepare and file tax registrations, business licenses, exemption certificates, and power of attorney forms as required across multiple jurisdictions. Assist in the review, research, and resolution of tax notices, inquiries, and assessments from tax authorities. Maintain compliance-related documentation and support special projects and other tax-related activities as assigned by the Indirect Tax Manager;
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Finance, Accounting, Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and other business functions to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance. Communicate tax requirements, filing obligations, and compliance-related matters to relevant stakeholders as directed by the Indirect Tax Manager. Coordinate and maintain effective working relationships with external tax advisors, consultants, and service providers to support compliance and reporting activities;
• Projects and Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of indirect tax processes through automation, process improvements, and system enhancements. Assist in the development and maintenance of tax procedures, controls, and documentation to support a compliant and scalable tax function. Collaborate and join cross-functionals projects.

Requirements:

• BA degree in accounting or finance with an emphasis in accounting;
• 3-5 years experience in indirect tax within a large multi-national company with a strong understanding of indirect tax principles and regulations;
• Fluency in English with excellent written and oral skills;
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, SAP, and other tax software.  Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines by effectively prioritizing work.  Must be detail oriented with good organizational skills.
