Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to set up, and operate precision machining equipment to produce high-quality metal and plastic components to blueprint specifications. The role focuses on interpreting engineering drawings, ensuring dimensional accuracy, troubleshooting machining processes, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to meet production targets and quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining sequence and tooling requirements.
- Program, edit, and optimize G-Code for CNC mills and lathes to produce parts within tolerance.
- Set up CNC machines, install fixtures and tooling, and perform first-article runs to verify program correctness.
- Operate CNC and conventional machining equipment to manufacture components, monitoring cycles and adjusting feeds/ speeds as needed.
- Perform in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, CMMs, and other precision measuring instruments to ensure parts meet dimensional and surface finish requirements.
- Troubleshoot machining problems (e.g., tool wear, chatter, program errors) and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Maintain machine and tooling maintenance logs, report issues, and perform basic preventative maintenance.
- Collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize processes, reduce scrap, and support Lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Follow safety protocols, maintain a clean work area, and adhere to quality control and documentation procedures.
Qualifications
- Required: Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawings (Blueprints).
- Solid machining fundamentals and hands-on experience producing precision parts (Machining).
- 5+ years of experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment; experience with both milling and turning preferred.
- Proficient with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators) and familiarity with CMM inspection is a plus.
- Comfortable setting up and operating CNC equipment and performing tool offsets, work offsets, and program transfers.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and program-related issues independently and communicate technical information clearly.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in a manufacturing environment.
- Nice-to-have: Experience specifically with CNC Machining and NC Machining operations.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methods (e.g., 5S, Kaizen).
- Preferred: Vocational training, technical certificate, or associate degree in machining, manufacturing technology, or related field; NIMS certification a plus.
Salary
