Agency Dept of Health and Human Services Division Caswell Developmental Center Job Classification Title Grounds Worker II (S) Position Number 60052461 Grade NC03 About Us The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. Description of Work This position will serve as Team Lead for a group of groundskeepers. This position performs and oversees skilled work in the planting, cultivation, and care of shrubs, trees, plants, and grass for the overall upkeep of campus grounds. Job responsibilities will also include the following: mowing grass with commercial mowers and tractors; maintaining shrubs and flowers through pruning and weeding; cleaning, performing minor repairs on, and conducting preventative maintenance for all equipment used, including sharpening lawn mower blades; applying salt during ice and snow conditions; keeping catch basins and ground gutters clean and free of debris; picking up broken limbs; edging, raking, and weed trimming; and assisting the Supervisor with the day-to-day operations of the shop. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences This is an anticipated vacancy Salary Range: $31,200.00 - $53,812.00 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs )/Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Possesses basic to general knowledge of the principles and techniques associated with groundskeeping and landscaping. Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary for the work. Ability to operate more common types of shop equipment. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Physical strength sufficient to perform heavy physical tasks for extended periods. Physical Requirements: Must be able to work in various outdoor climates, including below-freezing and extremely hot temperatures. Work Hours: 7 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday Location: Maintenance Department **Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus** To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate. An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if: The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date) The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
