Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3 ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY! The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways & Aviation, Western District is looking for an Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3 to help us Keep Alaska Moving! What you will be doing: In this role, you will help maintain safe and efficient airport and highway operations. Responsibilities include snow and ice control, pavement maintenance, runway inspections, equipment operation and maintenance, and repairs to airport infrastructure such as signs, lighting, and fencing. You will also support Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) operations, conduct airfield inspections, assist with wildlife hazard management, perform airport security inspections, and help ensure compliance with FAA and airport safety requirements. The working environment you can expect: This position is located in Nome, AK. This position works on a rotating two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off schedule and is based in a remote airport environment. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind, and other challenging Alaska conditions. Daily duties involve operating heavy equipment, maintaining airport and highway infrastructure, performing airfield inspections, supporting emergency response operations, and ensuring the airport remains safe and operational year-round. The position requires working around aircraft, heavy machinery, and active transportation facilities while adhering to strict safety and regulatory requirements.
