Job Title: Low Voltage Technician Job Description

This role focuses on installing, terminating, and maintaining low voltage systems in commercial environments, including structured cabling, access control, fire alarm, CCTV, and security integration. The position is open to both experienced level 2 installers with commercial cabling backgrounds and motivated entry-level candidates who demonstrate strong work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Technicians will handle end-to-end installations, from pulling and dressing cable to final device terminations and system connections.

• Install, pull, and route low voltage cabling (including CAT-5 and CAT-6) in commercial facilities, including through rafters and other building structures.
• Terminate data and low voltage cabling at wall outlets, patch panels, and equipment, including performing punch-downs and ensuring clean, well-dressed terminations.
• Install, wire, and connect cabinets, racks, and related infrastructure to support access control, fire alarm, CCTV, and other security systems.
• Wire and connect access control devices, panels, readers, and associated hardware in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Install and wire fire alarm systems, including devices, panels, and associated low voltage cabling, following applicable codes and best practices.
• Support the installation and integration of CCTV and security systems, including cameras, intrusion alarms, and related components.
• Follow detailed instructions and work plans accurately the first time, minimizing the need for repeated guidance.
• Maintain a high standard of workmanship in cable dressing, labeling, routing, and termination to ensure professional, organized installations.
• Work effectively as part of a field team, coordinating with leads, forepersons, and other technicians to complete projects on time.
• Adapt to different job sites and client environments, including new construction pre-wires and upgrades in existing facilities.
• Demonstrate consistent reliability by arriving on time, being prepared for work, and maintaining steady employment without significant unexplained gaps.
• Learn and apply new installation techniques and technologies through on-the-job training and continued education opportunities.
• Comply with all safety procedures and site-specific requirements while working on ladders, lifts, or in ceiling and rafter spaces.
• Travel occasionally to out-of-state job sites when needed, following the assigned schedule and representing the company professionally.

• Experience in low voltage commercial cabling, including structured cabling installations, is preferred for level 2 technician roles.
• Ability to pull, install, and route CAT-5 and CAT-6 cabling in commercial environments.
• Proficiency in terminating and performing punch-downs on data and low voltage cables at wall plates, patch panels, and equipment.
• Hands-on experience or strong aptitude for installing access control systems, including panels, readers, and related devices.
• Hands-on experience or strong aptitude for installing fire alarm systems and associated low voltage wiring.
• Familiarity with CCTV, security integration, intrusion alarm, and alarm system installations.
• Strong reliability and work ethic, with confirmed references and minimal unexplained employment gaps.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately the first time and retain guidance without repeatedly asking the same questions.
• Fast learning ability and adaptability, especially for candidates with limited prior experience.
• Capability to work safely in commercial job sites, including working in rafters, ceiling spaces, and around construction environments.
• For Tech 2 roles, at least 35 years of experience in the low voltage commercial space.
• Willingness to work different shifts as needed, including occasional second shifts for specific client requirements.

• BICSI certification is highly valued and places candidates in a strong position for advancement.
• BICSI Level II certification may qualify a candidate for higher-level technician roles within the organization.
• Foreman or lead-level experience is a plus and may open additional future opportunities.
• Experience working on school projects or similar institutional environments is beneficial.
• Comfort working on a variety of low voltage systems, including access control, fire alarm, CCTV, and intrusion alarms.
• Interest in ongoing professional development and participation in structured development plans and continued education.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with leads, forepersons, and other technicians on multi-phase projects.

Technicians work in a variety of commercial environments, ranging from bare-bones facilities undergoing large pre-wire projects to fully built and operational sites requiring system upgrades. The role may involve working in ceilings, rafters, and other structural spaces, as well as around active operations in existing buildings. Occasional out-of-state travel may be required; when this occurs, lodging is provided and a daily per diem is offered, with typical schedules arranged as four 10-hour days to allow return by Friday and create an extended weekend. Many projects involve school facilities, which can require second-shift work to ensure that installations occur when students and staff are not present. The schedule and conditions can vary by project, and technicians should be comfortable working in changing environments and adapting to different site requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
