Description


The Admission Counselor plays a critical role in the recruitment and enrollment process of undergraduate prospective students at Samford University. This position is responsible for representing the university to prospective students, their families, and high school counselors. The Admission Counselor will work closely with prospective students to guide them through the undergraduate admission process, help meet enrollment goals, and ensure a positive experience for all prospective applicants.

Job Duties


Recruitment and Outreach
  • Represent Samford University at recruitment events, college fairs, high school visits, and other recruitment events within an assigned geographic territory.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with high school counselors, community-based organizations, and prospective students.
  • Conduct informational sessions and campus tours for prospective students and their families.
  • Provide quality customer service to all prospective students/parents interested in Samford University.
  • Assist in planning and executing recruitment strategies to meet enrollment goals, including virtual and in-person outreach.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of on-campus and off-campus recruitment events.
Admission Counseling
  • Provide guidance to prospective students and their families on the undergraduate admission process, including application requirements, scholarship, financial aid, and academic programs.
  • Evaluate applicants for admission using established goals and objectives within the Office of Admission.
  • Assist in reviewing and making recommendations for undergraduate applicants who fall within the guidelines for admission.
Application Processing
  • Assist prospective students with the application process, including advising on the completion of application materials (e.g., essays, recommendation letters, transcripts).
  • Respond to inquiries regarding undergraduate admission policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of communications with prospective students in the department CRM (Slate).
Follow-up and Communication
  • Monitor and follow up with prospective students throughout the enrollment cycle, providing reminders about deadlines and encouraging application submission.
  • Maintain consistent communication with applicants and families to answer questions, provide updates, and ensure timely submission of materials.
  • Conduct proactive outreach, answering emails and other follow-up activities needed to communicate with prospective/accepted students.
  • Meet regularly established outreach goals.
Collaboration and Teamwork
  • Work closely with the undergraduate admission team to develop new strategies for prospective student recruitment.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other members of the Enrollment Management division to facilitate a smooth transition for new students.
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Perform additional tasks related to undergraduate recruitment and admission as needed by the Executive Director of Admission and other leadership team members.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Evidence of strong planning, organizing, computing, oral and written communications skills is essential, as well as public speaking experience.
  • Understanding the value of a liberal arts education within the context of a Christian university.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities to interact with students, parents, all levels of university employees and the general public.
  • Ability to review, analyze, formulate, organize, and follow through on all assignments.
  • Must be able to work independently and/or in a team and communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to travel extensively (15-20 weeks per year) by both air and ground, including but not limited to extended hours in the car, boarding a commercial airline, checking and carrying luggage, and renting vehicles.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Standing for extended periods of time (1-4 hours) at college fairs or similar events.
  • Basic heavy lifting (approx. 30lbs) on a semi-regular basis during travel and periodically throughout the year.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in college admissions, financial aid, high school counseling, or teaching.
