For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see .** **JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS**The College/Unit of IST is seeking applicants for part-time job of Graduate Assistant.**Job duties to include:*** Guide and execute development of a general data collection system that other researchers can use (incorporating both user-facing and researcher-facing elements).* Develop wireframes and mockups of the system* Guide software development with a team of engineers* Design an evaluation study for the system to test for comprehensiveness and usability* Write a research paper reporting on the process and evaluation* Publish results (targeting spring 2026).**Requirements, qualifications, and/or competencies*** Must be a currently-enrolled graduate student in good standing (master’s or doctoral level).* Coursework or experience in relevant fields (data ethics, HCI, app development, mobile software engineering, computational social science, etc) preferred.* Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and written/oral communication skills - This position will collaborate closely with research partners from other institutions, other students, and developers, so the ability to work and problem solve with others is critical.**Technical skills:*** Must have experience with developing mobile applications on Android, working with Gradle, Java/XML, and Google Play Console.* Preference for experience with Flutter and Flutter plugins.* Must have experience with backend frameworks such as: Phoenix/Elixir (preferred), Ruby on Rails, Django, etc.* Must have strong technical communication skills for documenting and communicating with other project contributors and stakeholders. **BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES**Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. **CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS**Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
