Phlebotomist -24-hour Outpatient

Site Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Sign‑on Bonus $3,000 Hours and Schedule 6:30 am – 5:30 pm Monday–Friday with weekend rotation. Scheduled weekly hours: 24. Essential Functions Draw blood for tests, transfusions, donations, or research. Explain the procedure to patients and assist in recovery of patients with adverse reactions. Dispose of contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies. Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture methods. Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies. Draw blood from capillaries by dermal puncture, such as heel or finger stick methods. Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. No experience in lieu of a degree. Licenses and Credentials: Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License (Generic) – HR Only preferred. MGH Security RMV Check/Registry of Motor Vehicles Driving Report – MGB Internal preferred. Experience None required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of various techniques in collecting specimens. Familiarity with HIPAA and OSHA regulations and an ability to maintain absolute discretion over highly sensitive patient information. Ability to communicate effectively with others. Proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens. Superior customer service skills, clear communication skills, and ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy. Knowledge and practice of proper aseptic techniques necessary to prevent injury to self and patients. Additional Job Details Career step ladder in the lab.
