General Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Pediatrics delivers direct patient care by applying the nursing process with clinical expertise tailored to pediatric practice. This role upholds the highest ethical standards in nursing and prioritizes patient safety and quality outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to maintain a secure care environment.
• Manage central lines and implement surgical site infection prevention measures according to policy.
• Administer medications, perform nursing interventions, and provide education to patients and families to promote health and recovery.
• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance safety, and inform the healthcare team.
• Document all care activities and quality metrics to support clinical decisions and compliance.
• Communicate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.
• Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability.
• Engage with patients and families promptly to improve their experience and understanding of care plans.
• Apply critical thinking in nursing practice and pursue continuing education to advance skills.

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.

Experience

At least one year of nursing experience is preferred.

Certification and Licensure

• Current RN license valid in the state or through compact licensure.
• Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position demands considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, and various movements such as pushing, pulling, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
