Where You Will Work: The Bureau of Field Operations is responsible for the survey and certification process of health care facilities across the State of Florida.

These surveys ensure that all state licensed, and federally certified health care facilities meet the established state and/or federal requirements and patients and residents receive safe, quality health care.

Field Operations staff also ensure the safety of residents in health care facilities when emergencies such as natural disasters occur.

The Work You Will Do: This position reports directly to the General and Operations Manager I of the Complaint and Incident Management Unit within the Bureau of Field Operations, Division of Health Quality Assurance.

This position is responsible for reviewing and triaging facility reported incidents within the AHCA Incident Reporting System (AIRS).

Specific duties include but are not limited to: Provides clinical oversight for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Agency’s incident reporting database.

Using a background in clinical nursing and assessment skills, reviews and triages all nursing home federal and state self-reported incidents.

This position must determine if the facility has taken appropriate action, and ensure that those, as needed, are referred to the field office for investigation.

Provides education and feedback to nursing homes when needed.

Makes recommendations and alerts supervisor to problematic situations and patterns or trends of activities.

Assists with the review of facility complaints for regulatory authority to applicable State and Federal laws, policies and procedures, and assigns priorities or refers complaints when appropriate.

Analyzes reported data to identify opportunities for provider and Agency staff education that focuses on prevention of facility incidents.

Remain informed about state, local, and federal health care programs, including pertinent federal and state statutes, administrative rules, policies and clinical aspects of health care and risk management.

This position has been identified as mission essential.

The incumbent in this position may be required to work during the weekend or on holidays.

In addition, mission essential personnel will be required to work during disasters, to include but not limited to, work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.

Emergency work may involve the incumbent to work in another county or staffing location to assist other State Agencies with emergency work.

Emergency duties may include, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

A good attendance record is essential for any individual in this position as the work involved occurs daily and is time critical.

The individual in this position is expected to report to work daily and on time.

Leave must be requested in advance except in emergency circumstances not under the control of the employee.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques.

Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.

Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.

Knowledge of basic computer skills with regard to word processing and e-mail systems and can effectively learn pertinent computer programs used in the Agency.

Possesses written and verbal communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Licensure as a registered professional nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 and four years of professional nursing experience.

Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing from an accredited college or university.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 64B9-3.
