Description Under the direction of the Chief of Police, manages the security team and ensures a safe and secure environment for all Tribal members, employees, visitors, buildings, properties, and Tribal assets. Plans, organizes, and directs security activities; implements policies and procedures to ensure program effectiveness, safeguard Tribal properties and assets, and manages departmental operating budget. Completes reports by documenting observations, incidents, occurrences, and surveillance activities, including maintaining a daily work log submitted to the Chief of Police at the end of each work week. Makes timely notifications to the Tribal Chief of Police, local police, or fire department during emergencies such as fire, intrusion, or unauthorized persons when necessary. Responds to fire and intrusion alarms and monitors building alarm code access and issuance. Maintains a high-visibility presence among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property. Takes appropriate corrective action to address safety and security risks and notifies the appropriate Tribal personnel of such conditions to ensure correction. Responds to visitor behavior that is contrary to Tribal policies and takes appropriate corrective action when necessary. Unlocks facilities when opening and secures buildings by locking doors and setting alarms at closing. Conducts routine patrols of Tribal buildings and properties using Tribal Security vehicles; completes vehicle condition inspections at the beginning and end of each shift. Manages Security Department personnel, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and disciplinary action when appropriate. Provides direct supervision, leadership, and accountability for security officers Additional Duties Maintains security- related vendor contracts including intrusion alarms, fire systems, first aid supplies, and other related services. Manages vendor relationships, negotiates contracts, and evaluates security-related technology and service solutions. Oversees security projects including technology upgrades, surveillance camera systems, access control systems, and alarm infrastructure. Oversees internal investigations involving security incidents, disturbances, complaints, policy violations, and potential criminal activity, ensuring thorough documentation and coordination with law enforcement when required Prepares formal security reports and provides operational briefings to the Tribal Chief of Police. Answers telephone calls, takes messages, responds to inquiries, and provides information when needed or assigned. The Tribe values its commitment to community service and the well-being of its members. In recognition of this, each employee may be expected to perform duties from time to time which may not be related to their regular responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. Ability to demonstrate confidence and sound judgement when completing assignments, making decisions, or addressing workplace concerns. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to address sensitive, confidential, and potentially controversial matters professionally. Must be able to work independently and be productive with limited supervision. Ability to use a cell phone, desktop or laptop computer, and maintain written daily activity logs. Knowledge of security operations, incident response procedures, and applicable safety protocols. Ability to lead, train, and provide guidance to staff while maintaining accountability and operational effectiveness. Education & Experience Education Required: Associate's degree in criminal justice, public safety, law enforcement, emergency management, or a related field is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the degree requirement Education Preferred Bachelor's degree in criminal justice , public safety, law enforcement, emergency management, or a related field preferred. Experience Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible security, law enforcement, military, public safety, or related experience. Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience, including training, development, and oversight of personnel Certifications/Licenses Must have and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license without restrictions. Must have and maintain current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications. Other Requirements Must be able to pass a thorough pre-employment background investigation. Must agree to be subject to the Tribe's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy to include pre-employment screening. Work Environment Work is performed both indoors, in vehicles and outdoors. Can be physically demanding, stressful, and dangerous. Security Specialist must be alert and ready to react throughout their entire shift, as required. Tribal Preference The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe follows the Tribal Hiring Preference as outlined in tribal policies, including the Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO). TERO sets forth certain hiring preferences for qualified individuals who are enrolled in a federally recognized Indian tribe, as well as, in some cases, preference for certain family members of those individuals. Additional Information Salary compensation will be determined based on experience and starts at $76,159.67 per year. This position is a regular full-time position and employment is at will. Location Snoqualmie, WA Benefits First of the month following date of hire - competitive medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance benefits for all regular full-time employees. After 90 days - 401k retirement plan with employer matching contributions up to 4%.
