Controller

The Controller will oversee the full accounting function for a growing early‑stage medical device company. This is a highly hands‑on role requiring a self‑directed accounting professional who can independently manage the close process, maintain accurate financial reporting, and support leadership with board and investor reporting. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, startup agility, and experience operating in a dynamic, evolving environment. Roles & Responsibilities Own and manage the full accounting function, including general ledger, month‑end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements Manage QuickBooks as the primary accounting system and oversee AP workflows through Bill.com Perform and independently own all bank reconciliations and cash management activities Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and board/investor financial reporting Manage accounting for available‑for‑sale (AFS) securities under ASC 320, including OCI and unrealized gain/loss tracking Support audit readiness and external audit activities Track and allocate clinical trial costs, including CRO invoicing, accruals, and site payments Oversee R&D accounting and proper classification of expenses under ASC 730 Support manufacturing and inventory accounting activities, including standard costing, inventory valuation, BOM tracking, and overhead allocation Build and improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting procedures in a growing startup environment Assist with special projects and strategic finance initiatives as needed Required Skills & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a Controller or senior accounting capacity Strong proficiency in QuickBooks and Bill.com required Demonstrated experience with available‑for‑sale (AFS) securities accounting under ASC 320 Experience managing month‑end and year‑end close processes independently Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and GAAP accounting principles Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and FP&A support Medical device industry experience strongly preferred Experience supporting manufacturing/COGS accounting environments preferred Highly self‑directed with the ability to operate independently in a lean environment Versique is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating a diverse workforce.
