Safely transport students on daily routes and other transportation operations while following CDE, CDL and district policies and any other relevant state or federal regulations. This position is required to drive varying and directly assigned daily transportation routes and substitute for varying routes and district operations as needed. This position will be required to safely operate all department vehicles as assigned to support department and district operations and emergency district needs during all hours of the day and all types of weather/traffic conditions as needed. Learn and maintain knowledge of state and federal transportation laws and regulations and Thompson Schools District policies and procedures. Provide customer service and resolve operational route needs and concerns with department and district staff. Provide any needed support to the department and district in emergency situations.

Essential duties and responsibilities include safely transporting students, district staff and other passengers while following CDE, CDL, District policies, and any other relevant state or federal regulations. Ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff at all times during district operations. Manage student behavior and maintain discipline at all times during operations. Communicate with district staff, including but not limited to, teachers, paraprofessionals and security monitors during operations. Work with Transportation Managers to address student behavior issues and concerns with parents/guardians and district staff, including possible meetings. Learn and maintain operating knowledge and abilities of all relevant equipment used for transportation operations and all vehicles, including, type A, B, C and D school buses. Learn, maintain, and continually update knowledge of state and federal transportation laws and regulations and Thompson Schools District policies and procedures. Learn, maintain, and continually update knowledge of city and county roads, locations of district sites and other district operations destinations and locations. Learn, maintain, and continually update knowledge of student behavior management techniques. Inspect any/all district vehicles in compliance with State, Federal and District policy before and after driving assignments. Report all safety defects and ensure vehicles are in compliance. Ensure safety equipment meets requirements. Check for adequate fuel, oil and coolant. Perform winter weather maintenance and duties for your vehicle and route needs. Perform cold start duties for the Transportation Department as needed. Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of assigned vehicle, including weekly upkeep/cleaning and before and after year cleaning/checklists. Assist in monitoring and responding to student's physical, medical or emotional needs. Perform basic first aid when required. Uphold all duties and requirements as a mandatory reporter for TSD. Update maps, directions, written materials and any transportation data/forms as needed. Report accidents, incidents, hazards, breakdowns and delays to dispatch or supervisor. Maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times. Attend training classes, first aid and in-service/district professional development meetings as required by the district. Conduct emergency evacuations, district reunification or any other emergency operations as needed. Maintain reports, records and written documentation as required or requested by supervisor and/or district staff. Work in cooperation with Bus Paraprofessional in operating bus lift, securing adaptive devices and any other operational needs. Perform other duties as assigned.
