Ultrasound Technologist

Site: Brigham and Women's Physicians Organization, Inc. Job Summary The incumbent operates ultrasound imaging equipment, acquires diagnostic images, and communicates sonographer impressions to interpreting physicians. The role requires problem-solving skills, effective communication with patients, peers, and physicians, and independent judgment to modify scan techniques for optimal image quality. The position participates in call, holiday, and shift rotations and may rotate among main campus and community locations. Essential Functions Patient and exam verification: ensure two points of patient identification. Review exam orders, indications, and patient chart for adequate clinical history. Prepare and clean equipment and room; stock supplies. Use clear communication to explain the exam to patients, respecting physical and emotional needs. Collaborate with leadership to ensure smooth patient flow and optimal ultrasound scanner utilization. Deliver patient care under the scope of license and training. Assume responsibilities for on‑call and holiday coverage; remain flexible in shift coverage and overtime. Perform clinical ultrasound exams and oversee instruction of sonographers, professional staff, and students. Participate in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects. Provide support tasks such as administrative coverage, PACS superuser, research designee, quality control, CPR instructor, and safety champion. Qualifications Education: Other Certificate/Diploma in Diagnostic Imaging required; Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Imaging preferred. No experience accepted in lieu of a degree. Licenses and Credentials: Certified Sonographer – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) required.
