Explore your future and launch your career today.Northrop Grumman is currently seeking an experienced Structural Engineer/Principal Structural Engineer to provide leadership to our Nozzle Design team in our Promontory, UT offices.Role description & Responsibilities:The Nozzle Structural Engineer is responsible for designing solid rocket motor nozzles for a variety of government and commercial programs. This individual will use their engineering knowledge and creativity to develop design solutions that meet technical, cost, and schedule requirements. This requisition may be filled at the higher grade based on qualifications listed below.Job Duties: Provide accurate, on-time 3D models, drawings and specifications for next generation nozzle designsConduct and lead trade studies Define, develop, and qualify design changesPerform preliminary structural analysis of nozzle componentsProvide technical guidance and direction to engineering teams in the design, test, and production phases of a projectInteract with development teams (including specialists in Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, Thermal, Structural, Materials, and Test) to certify creative design solutions that meet all requirements (technical, cost, schedule)Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers Perform anomaly resolution and conduct special studies Participate in postfire evaluations of nozzle hardware Qualifications Basic Qualifications:This requisition maybe filled at either Engineer level or Principal Engineer level. The minimum experience fr the Engineer level is 2 years with BS degreer 0 years with MS degree. The minimum experience fr the Principal Engineer level is 5 years with BS degreer 3 years with MS degree.Broad understanding of mechanical design, structural analysis, material behavior, and heat transferStrong skills in 3D modeling, mechanical drawings, and GD&TExcellent written and oral communication skillsExcellent time management and organizational skillsDetail oriented but able to understand the big pictureAbility to travel: Travel expectation of 0% – 5%Preferred Experience: Previous nozzle design, rocket motor design, or aerospace design experience NX modeling and drawing experienceUnderstanding of manufacturing and inspection processesDesign and analysis experience with bolted joints, metallic and composite structures, and bonded assembliesTolerance analysisEducation/CertificationsB.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
