Assistant Stylist

Overview The Assistant Stylist is responsible for engaging with guests, consulting on hair care needs, and recommending products and services. The position is temporary and designed to prepare talent for a full stylist role. General Scope of the Position Assistant Stylists are mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist during the first three months, focusing on performance, guest service, and operational process. They learn to perform a wide range of hair services, product recommendations, and client consultations. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Deliver exceptional guest service and support store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink. Support the mentor Stylist in meeting sales and productivity objectives for hair services and products through add‑on recommendations, shampoo and treatment processes, blowouts, styling, color applications, foils assistance, cleaning and sanitation, pre‑booking, and retail recommendations. After month three, perform hair services including design, cuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable. Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest experience. Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives. Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services and remain knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits. Maintain prompt, regular attendance. Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations. Serve all guests efficiently under the mentorship of another stylist. Partner with skin therapists and the retail team for a total‑store experience. Share benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app. Ensure compliance with company policies, safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures. Follow service protocols for a consistent guest experience. Use booking and clientele systems to secure return service appointments. Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager. Maintain cleanliness of the salon, sales floor, restrooms, backroom, and break area. Attend mandatory trainings and meetings. Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code. Protect company assets and follow loss‑prevention best practices. Execute additional operational tasks as directed. Job Qualifications Cosmetology license. Basic understanding of haircutting, color, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, brow, and ear‑piercing services, or aptitude to develop skills in all service categories. Understanding of equipment and chemicals needed for technical work. Ability to recommend and sell professional hair care and makeup products. Good communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele. Flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Working Conditions Frequent mobility, bending, reaching, twisting, lifting up to 10 lbs, and standing for long periods. Frequent use of computer and telephone devices.
