Party Chief Surveyor ( Tunnel Construction Project)

Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services ( We are currently looking for a Party Chief Surveyor to join our team for a Tunnel Construction Project in Chesapeake, Virginia. Project Tunnel Construction Project Estimated duration of the position 1 year. In general, when the project ends, we try to place the employee in other projects to give him/her continuity. Responsibilities Lead and supervise the surveying team assigned to the tunnel section of the project. Establish and maintain accurate horizontal and vertical control networks within the tunnel. Conduct daily and periodic tunnel alignments, as‑built surveys, and monitoring of deformations or displacements. Coordinate with engineers and construction managers to interpret project plans and provide accurate layout and staking. Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and use of surveying equipment (e.g., total stations, digital levels, laser scanners, gyroscopic systems). Maintain detailed survey records, field notes, and reports. Implement safety protocols and quality‑control procedures within the surveying team. Communicate effectively with the design and construction teams to resolve discrepancies or unexpected site conditions. Train and mentor junior surveyors and assistants. Requirements Degree or diploma in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field. Proven experience in underground or tunnel surveying, preferably in major infrastructure projects. Proficiency with survey software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Leica Cyclone). Strong understanding of tunnel boring machines (TBM), NATM methods, or similar tunneling techniques. Ability to lead a team and work under pressure in confined underground environments. Excellent attention to detail and strong problem‑solving skills. Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and extended hours as required. Working hours Monday to Friday, 8 am‑6 pm (10 hours) (1 hour lunch). There is the possibility of working some Saturdays.
