2025 PSB Summer Internship Program: CIT, Communications, and OCM

The King County Executive's Office of Performance, Strategy, and Budget (PSB) is hiring interns to work with several different teams within the office as part of the 2025 PSB Summer Internship Program. Interns will gain a firsthand understanding of the workings of government, get an overview of how projects, policies, and legislation are created and implemented, understand why civic engagement matters, and build an appreciation for the importance of public service. Depending on the assignment, interns may interact with a wide variety of people including staff, elected officials, community members, or program participants. Interns will have the opportunity to be part of a high-performing team and take advantage of County training and learning opportunities. Opportunities to engage as an intern cohort, network and connect with leaders across the organization, and participate in outings to various County operations add to the intern experience at PSB. The Office of Performance, Strategy and Budget (PSB) is in the Executive department of King County government. It serves as a resource to the County's departments and agencies in developing and implementing budgets, strategic plans, financial plans, visual management tools, continuous improvement processes, and performance metrics. It is also responsible for regional planning and implementation of Lean process improvement. CIT, Communications, and OCM Intern: The Office of Performance, Strategy and Budget seeks a creative and passionate Communications and Organizational Change Management (OCM) intern to join the office this summer. In this role, you will assist the Continuous Improvement Communications team in supporting change management for our continuous improvement maturity model (aka Best-Run Government Roadmap) and evaluating and improving our leadership communications strategy. These channels will be used to cascade mission-critical practices and expectations throughout the organization, and attention to sound communications and change management principles will be key to this role. Mentored by a supervisor, the intern will: Learn and facilitate change management activities for the Best-Run Government Roadmap (BRG Roadmap) cycle. Engage and assist departments in their implementation of the BRG Roadmap assessment and action planning phases. Learn the fundamentals of our BRG Organizational Change Management (OCM) framework and support ongoing improvements. Evaluate and assess the current leader communication strategy to identify areas for improvement. Analyze research findings to identify trends and opportunities in current leader communication. Change Management analysis, planning and implementation. Design SharePoint pages in Upfront (News and resources for managers and supervisors). Project management. Write clear and compelling communications and features. Work as part of a team. Minimum Requirements: Working knowledge of basic change management principles. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrates attention to detail. Ability to work independently as well as with a team. SharePoint design experience. Experience with Microsoft Office 365. Strong project management and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities. Education Level: Some undergraduate college course work completed. Demonstrated work ethic, ability to get things done, and independent time management skills. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with diverse peoples and peoples from different backgrounds and across different sectors. Demonstrated customer service experience. Flexibility and the ability to adapt to new situations while working in a multi-faceted and sometimes ambiguous environment. Can remain neutral on issues where there are competing political agendas and use tact, discretion, and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive issues and concerned individuals. Analytical and research skills and the ability to learn new technologies and processes.
