CBIG is looking for a Fleet Manager in our Lansing or Livonia, Michigan region!What You Will Do:As Fleet Manager, your primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:Fleet Strategy & Asset OptimizationDevelop and execute a comprehensive fleet management strategy aligned with enterprise-wide growth plans and operational demands.Analyze fleet utilization data to identify underperforming, over-deployed, or redundant assets.Determine optimal fleet size, composition, and mix across the construction management division and all four self-perform companies.Drive asset-sharing and coordination between regions to maximize utilization and minimize idle assets.Acquisition, Rental, and DispositionEstablish purchasing strategy and approval processes for fleet and equipment acquisition.Evaluate rent-versus-own decisions using total cost of ownership modeling, project duration, and asset life cycle analysis.Manage vendor and dealer relationships; negotiate purchase, lease, and rental agreements to achieve favorable terms.Plan and execute the timely sale, auction, or decommissioning of equipment at end of useful life.Maintain awareness of market conditions to time buy/sell decisions advantageously.Life Cycle Planning & Capital ForecastingDefine and maintain life cycle standards for each category of fleet asset (light vehicles, heavy equipment, specialty equipment).Build and maintain a multi-year capital replacement schedule and fleet forecast aligned with the company's annual budgeting process.Provide leadership with actionable reporting on fleet aging, upcoming replacement needs, and capital requirements.Develop asset depreciation schedules in coordination with accounting.Maintenance & ComplianceOversee preventive maintenance programs across all fleet categories and regional yards.Ensure DOT compliance for all commercial motor vehicles, including driver qualification files, DVIR logs, and inspection records.Manage telematics systems and utilize data to improve driver safety, fuel efficiency, and vehicle utilization.Maintain accurate asset registrations, titles, insurance records, and licensing across all entities and states of operation.Coordinate with the safety and risk teams to ensure fleet-related safety programs are in place and effective.Financial Management & ReportingOwn and manage the annual fleet and yard operations budget across all divisions.Track and report fleet operating costs, including fuel, maintenance, insurance, depreciation, and rental spend.Develop cost allocation and chargeback systems to accurately charge fleet costs to individual projects and divisions.Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives without compromising operational effectiveness.Provide regular reporting to executive leadership on fleet KPIs, utilization, and cost performance.Team Leadership & Yard OperationsDirectly lead, develop, and support four regional Warehouse Foremen.Establish consistent operational standards, processes, and expectations across all yard locations.Conduct regular site visits to each regional yard to assess operations, provide coaching, and ensure alignment.Coordinate with Warehouse Foremen on inventory management of small tools, materials, and consumables.What You Will Bring to the Team:Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:Five plus (5+) years of progressive fleet management experience, with at least three (3) years managing a diverse fleet that includes heavy and specialty equipment.Demonstrated experience managing fleet across multiple locations or business units.Strong working knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA compliance, and CDL requirements.Experience with fleet management systems (FMS/telematics) and asset tracking tools.Proven ability to develop and manage capital budgets and multi-year replacement plans.Track record of successful buy/sell/lease negotiations with dealers, vendors, and rental houses.Strong analytical and financial modeling skills; comfortable with cost-of-ownership analysis.Excellent leadership and communication skills; experience managing geographically dispersed teams.-or- Equivalent combination of the above training and experience.Preferred experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:Bachelor's degree in business, operations management, supply chain, or a related job field.Experience in construction, infrastructure, or heavy industry fleet management.Familiarity with equipment types common to concrete, excavation, general trades, and demolition operations.Experience implementing or improving fleet management software platforms.Background in equipment auctions, resale markets, or dealer relationships for heavy equipment.Relevant certifications such as CAFM (Certified Automotive Fleet Manager) or equivalentAdditional Eligibility QualificationsHave the ability to interact with and develop effective working relationships with a wide range of people, including internal and external customers, in different situations.Must have excellent written and oral skills.Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft 365 including Word, Excel, and Outlook.Have a passion for team-based planning and problem-solving.Have a wholehearted commitment to building strong partnerships to support project goals.The Christman family of companies is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer that is committed to diversity.
