Must-Have: Experience with IVs is necessary; Knowledge of non-chemo infusions

Description: The competent nurse practices independently within a similar clinical setting. They demonstrate awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. The nurse provides both routine and complex care, focusing on long-range goals and plans. They continually develop the skills necessary to cope with and manage contingencies in clinical nursing. They make appropriate assignments and delegate responsibilities to other care providers as a means to help manage the clinical situation. Responsibilities include: Meeting expectations of applicable competencies including leadership. Consistent with the nursing scope and standards of practice, they provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. They address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families according to their level of practice. Using appropriate protocols, the nurse administers medications and treatments, while monitoring for side effects and effectiveness of the prescribed treatment. Documentation of patient history, symptoms, medications, and care given is required. They assess learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers, identifying relevant issues and resources.
