Fulfilling this mission requires employees working across our hospitals, clinics, programs, and offices to deliver services and support the communities we serve. Individuals interested in joining SFDPH should expect to work in person across these settings.\nThe San Francisco Health Network, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services, and Administration are the core divisions of SFDPH. The San Francisco Health Network is the City’s only complete system of care and has locations throughout the City, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers. The Population Health Division (PHD) provides core public health services for the City and County of San Francisco: health protection, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, and disaster preparedness and response. Behavioral Health Services operates in conjunction with SFHN and provides a range of mental health and substance use treatment services.\nSTART with this ⚠️ REQUIRED EXAM ✅   \n submit an online application.\nNote: If you previously applied to a SFDPH Nurse Practitioner position before 9/26/25, you need to apply again to be added to this new eligible list.\n Job Description\n\nUnder general nursing and medical direction, utilizing standardized procedures, the Nurse Practitioner functions within an organized system for the delivery of health care in association with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team and performs specialized nurse practitioner duties in clinical settings.\nThe essential functions include, but are not limited to:\n\n Provides routine preventative and continuity of care to adult and/or pediatric patients; this may include complete history and physical examinations.\n Orders diagnostic tests, which may include laboratory tests, X-rays and other imaging, E.K.G.’s, and other disease or condition specific diagnostic tests.\n Identifies and manages patients with unstable chronic diseases appropriate to clinical specialty.\n Provides urgent care to acutely ill patients.\n Acute care planning for patients in an inpatient setting.\n Assesses and diagnosis, develops treatment plans, and furnishes medications.\n Counsels and educates patients, and collaborates with healthcare team.\n Consults with physicians on the diagnosis and treatment of unstable and complex patient conditions.\n Documents medical records and adheres to patient privacy.\n Participates in staff meetings and conferences regarding patient care, as well as quality improvement/control activities.\n\nThe 2328 Nurse Practitioner (All Specialties) may perform other duties as assigned/required.Qualifications\n\nMinimum Qualifications\n\n LICENSE*: Possession of a valid California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND \n LICENSE*: Possession of a current medication furnishing license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND\n CERTIFICATION: Possession of national board certification, or eligibility, as a Nurse Practitioner issued by one of the following recognized national certifying body or organization: \n \n American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)\n American Nurses Association – American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) \n Pediatric Nursing Certification Board \n National Certification Corporation (NCC) for the Women’s Health Care and Neonatal Nursing Specialties \n American Association of Critical Care Nurses \n \n\n*Licenses must show "Current" on search.dca.ca.gov. Please include your license numbers in your application.\nSOME POSITIONS HAVE ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS\nCERTIFICATES/LICENSES\n\n Possession of a valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association. \n Specialization as a Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP, Women’s Health, Acute Care NP, Pediatric NP or Psychiatric Mental Health NP.\n The ability to obtain Security Clearance from the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department.\n Possession of a Furnishing and dispensing number (or ability to pass the credential process within 90 days of hire).\n Certified as a Medical Examiner by The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.\n\nEXPERIENCE\n\n Six (6) months (equivalent to 1,000 hours) of work experience as a Health Care provider treating patients in a long-term care facility, skilled nursing facility, or other acute long term care setting.\n Minimum of six (6) months (equivalent to 1,000 hours) of Occupational Health experience.\n One (1) year (equivalent to 2,000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse on a psychiatric inpatient unit, psychiatric emergency service clinic or mental health center.\n One (1) year (equivalent to 2,000 hours) of experience in a setting that treats HIV, AIDS, and Sexually Transmitted Infections.\n\nOne-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). \nVerification of Education and Experience: \nEvery application is reviewed to ensure that you meet the minimum qualifications as listed in the job ad. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law.
