Description Essential functions of a Shop Mechanic / Lead Mechanic Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers, perform annual/systematic 90 day and HM-183 inspections (trailers) on equipment as required, and ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards. Knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, and company policies and procedures. HVAC work and procedures. Order and receive parts and supplies as needed. Adhere to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards, including identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous wastes. Clean, organize and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned. Skills, Knowledge, and Education High school diploma, completion of G.E.D., or equivalent vocational school. Must possess at least 3 years of experience in the repair and service of trailers and heavy-duty trucks. Knowledge is mandatory of vehicle and equipment theory, principles, and repair relating to diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. Knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures. Ability to use vehicle diagnostic software. Basic computer skills. Must have basic tools to perform work. Operate a yard truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
