Position: Core Curriculum Teacher (2026-2027)

Bright Water Waldorf School is seeking an energetic, collaborative, and warm-hearted teacher, committed to the ideals of Waldorf education and wanting to serve as a core curriculum teacher. For the 2026-2027 academic year, the Grades School needs to fill a full-time faculty position (for a faculty member going on a one-year leave) with a full-time position–1.0 FTE (20 contact hours per week X 35 weeks = 700 contact hours/year). We are a group of dedicated faculty and staff committed to Waldorf principles, mindful land stewardship, and providing our students with opportunities for dynamic learning within an inclusive community.

Bright Water Waldorf School is an independent school serving students Pre-K to 8 th grade with a developmentally appropriate, multidisciplinary, experiential, and academically rigorous education, engaging students’ heads, hands, and hearts. Our home is within the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Washington in Seattle’s Chinatown International District neighborhood. Areas of Responsibility:

Grade 8 Blocks (160 contact hours): 

• 40 hours for science–Anatomy & Physiology 
• 40 hours for Economic Geography
• 40 hours for History I
• 40 hours for History II

Grade 3 Curriculum Enrichment (6 hours/week, totaling 210 contact hours):

• Language Arts, teaching through Hebrew Legends or Similar Archetypal Stories
• Painting
• Measurement (Math)
• Practical Arts (House Building, Fibers, Cooking, Gardening, etc.)

Middle School Math (3 Lessons/week, totaling 105 contact hours)

Environmental Science (4 Lessons/Week, totaling 140 contact hours)

Organizational Help in Grades 1/2/3 and Grades 6/7/8 (2 lessons/week, totaling 70 contact hours)

Total : 685 Contact Hours for Academic Year

Parent work is intrinsically included : 

• Parent-Teacher Conferences
• Report Writing
• Weekly Parent/Guardian Emails (alternating between Lower Grades and 8th Grade)
• Some Parent Meeting Visits

Required Credentials:

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Waldorf teacher certification or willingness to complete

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Commitment and energy in working with elementary aged students
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues
• Commitment to an equitable, anti-racist, and gender-inclusive environment, evaluation of systemic privilege and oppression, and an openness to personal and institutional growth
• Interest in evolving the Waldorf curriculum for the 21st Century

Location:

On campus at Bright Water Waldorf School, current location 1414 S Weller Street, Seattle, WA 98144.

Hours:

This is a 1.0 FTE position. The hours of the school day are 7:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. daily. In addition, teachers attend a weekly college meeting as well as some evening and weekend meetings/events.

Compensation:

$44,280-$80,718.75 is based on level of education, experience on our salary scale, plus benefits.
