Construction Superintendent

PositionPurpose:

TheVOLLERSConstructionSuperintendentprovidesthefieldleadershipnecessarytoplan,organize,direct,coordinateandcontroldailyjobsiteactivities.Thepositionisresponsibleforexecutingtheworksafely,efficiently,andinaccordancewiththeprojectplans,specifications,schedule,budget,qualitystandards,andcontractualrequirements.

WorkinginpartnershipwithProjectManagementandothermembersoftheoperationsteam,theSuperintendentleadsfieldpersonnelandsubcontractors,coordinatesresources,resolvesoperationalissues,andmaintainsproductiverelationshipswithclientstosupportsuccessfulprojectcompletion.

Responsibilities:

SafetyLeadership

• Ensuresthatpropersafetyplanningisincludedinallpre-jobplanningandconsideredforemostinthedailyoperationsbycreatingandmaintainingacultureinwhicheveryemployeeandsubcontractorisexpectedtoworksafelyandisheldaccountableforsafebehavior.
• Conductrequiredsafetymeetings,pre-taskplanning,andjobhazardanalysis.
• EnsureemployeesandsubcontractorsuserequiredPPEandcomplywithOSHArequirements,site-specificrequirements,andcompanysafetypolicies.
• Promptlyidentify,address,documentandcommunicateunsafeconditions,incidents,nearmisses,andcorrectiveactionincoordinationwiththeSafetyCommittee.

ProjectPlanning&Execution

• Superviseaprojectonyourownandeffectivelycommunicatewiththeclient,projectteams,andotherinternalstakeholders.
• Demonstratetheabilitytomovebetweenprojectsandmanagemultiplecrewsifrequired.
• Createdailyandthree-weekschedulesinaccordancewiththeoverallprojectscheduleandcommunicateexpectationstoappropriatepersonnel.
• Maintaintheappropriateamountoflabortostreamlineprojectcompletioninthemostefficientmannerpossible.
• Planequipmentneeds,ordermaterials,andotherjobsiteresourcestosupportefficientandtimelyexecution.
• Identifyproductivityoroperationalissuesandtakecorrectiveactiontominimizescheduledelaysandcostimpacts.
• Ensuretasksareperformedinaccordancewithapprovedplans,specifications,submittals,permits,contractrequirements,andqualitystandards.
• Willingnesstoparticipateasaworkingmemberofacrewifnecessary.

Cost&ProductivityManagement

• Monitordailyproduction,labor,equipmentutilization,quantities,andjobcostsagainsttheprojectestimate,budget,andschedule.
• ReviewdailyandweeklycostandproductivityreportswiththeSeniorSuperintendent,ProjectManager,orProjectExecutivetoidentifyareasrequiringattention.
• Developandimplementcorrectivemeasureswhenproductionorcostsdonotmeetexpectations.
• Properlycodelabor,materials,trucking,andothercoststosupportaccuratereporting.
• Protectcompanyresourcesbypromotingtheefficientuse,care,andsecurityoflabor,equipment,tools,andmaterials.

ProjectCoordination&Communication

• Representthecompanyprofessionallyinprojectmeetings,ownerorcontractormeetings,andinternalstrategysessions.
• Maintainandbuildeffectiveworkingrelationshipswithclients,owners,inspectors,subcontractors,vendors,fieldpersonnel,andotherprojectstakeholders.
• Responsibleforallprojectsurveylayoutandcompleteas-builtplandataincollaborationwiththeappropriatesurveyandprojectpersonnel.
• Managethefieldaspectsofallsubcontractors,includingsafety,schedule,quality,productivity,andcompliance.
• Coordinaterequiredinspections,testing,permits,anddocumentationwiththeprojectteamandappropriateoutsideparties.

DocumentationandChangeManagement

• Performallprojectinformationreportingasrequired,includingbutnotlimitedtodailyreporting,productionreports,dailycrewschedule,andthree-weeklookaheadschedules,safetydocumentation,materialandtruckingtickets,As-builtinformation,photographs,andothersupportingdocuments.
• IdentifyandmanageT&MandChangeOrderwork.
• Supportpunchlistcompletion,demobilization,turnoverandcloseoutactivities.

ConstructionTechnology&Systems

• UnderstandandimplementGPSandmachinecontrolsystemsasapplicable.
• Effectivelylearnandusecompany’sprojectmanagement,fieldreporting,timecard,scheduling,documentmanagement,andothersystemsasneeded.

Leadership&WorkforceDevelopment

• Leadforemanandcrewsbyestablishingclearexpectations,communicatingpriorities,monitoringperformance,andholdingteammembersaccountable.
• Assistinthedevelopmentofforemen,laborers,operatorsandotherfieldemployeesthroughcoaching,feedback,andcross-training.
• Identifyhigh-potentialemployeesandcommunicatewithcompanyleadership.
• AddressperformanceissuesincoordinationwithHRwhenadditionalactionisneeded.

Knowledge&Skills:

• Sevenyearsofrelevantheavycivilconstructionexperience,includingatleastfiveyearsasaForeman.
• Thoroughknowledgeofheavycivilconstructionmethodsincludingsitework,utilities,grading,excavation,orotherrelevantscopes.
• Abilitytoreadandunderstandallcivil,structural,andarchitecturalplans,specifications,contractualrequirementsaswellasknowledgeofthematerials,equipment,andtoolsnecessarytocompletethework.
• ProficientinPCsoftwareandsystemssuchasMicrosoftOffice;PDF,Emailing,UsingSpreadSheets,OnlinePlan&DocumentStorage,MicrosoftProject(orotherschedulingplatforms).
• Strongverbalandwrittencommunicationskills.
• Strongleadership,organizational,planning,problemsolving,andtimemanagementskills.
