Position Medical Lab Scientist I (PRN) – Bolingbrook, IL Schedule & Location Shift: Night – 11:00pm to 7:30am Location: 500 Remington Blvd, Bolingbrook, 60440 Responsibilities Conduct a variety of laboratory procedures in designated areas as licensed or certified. Perform analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens with moderate to high theoretical and practical knowledge. Interpret data with precision and accuracy according to established policies and procedures. Participate in pre‑ and post‑analytical work processes depending on campus and department. Adhere to laboratory policies and procedures while maintaining quality control practices. Manage selected aspects of laboratory processes or shifts, including workflow management, quality control, performance improvement, training of new employees, advanced problem‑solving, and maintenance of equipment or computer systems. Write or review procedures and assist lab leadership in meeting goals across Team, Service, Clinical, Market, and Finance areas. Maintain relationships that are respectful to all customers and coworkers, providing outstanding customer service. Develop and implement policies and procedures for new equipment and/or assays, including quality control procedures. Perform, evaluate, and accurately record quality control testing on all reportable assays; ensure routine and unscheduled maintenance is performed timely. Perform pre-analytical activities such as equipment maintenance, function checks, inventory control, specimen collection, processing, cleaning, and disinfection. Carry out analytical procedures efficiently and accurately, meeting departmental competency standards. Participate in proficiency testing and adhere to federal, state, and institutional regulations. Conduct post-analytical activities, report results (including highly abnormal results) per established procedures. Provide orientation, training, and support to new employees and medical technology students; act as preceptor when assigned. Document orientation and training of new staff. Assist technicians and support staff with customer service issues and provide education to clinical staff as requested. Facilitate workflow and follow safety policies including PPE, handwashing, hazardous chemical handling, and the Chemical Hygiene Plan. Transport hazardous waste as required and complete training on proper handling. Participate in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities. Assist with evaluation of new laboratory techniques and procedures, data collection, and special projects. Document and submit required laboratory, departmental, and staff statistics/reports. Qualifications Associate in a laboratory science (chemical or biological) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution. Alternatively, successful completion of at least a 50‑week official US military medical laboratory procedures training course with current or former Military Enlisted Occupational Specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist, or qualified and served as high complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA‑certified laboratory as of Dec282024, and have done so continuously since Dec282024. Technical skills and aptitudes related to laboratory testing, procedures, and processes performed in assigned department. Preferred certifications: Clinical Lab Technologist, Medical Lab Scientist (MLSAMT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLSASCP), Medical Technologist (MTAAB), Medical Technologist (MTAMT), Medical Technologist (MTASCP).
