Senior Accountant (Internal Only - Hybrid)

What You'll Be Doing As a Senior Accountant in Planning and Development Services (PDS), you will help ensure that our financial operations keep pace with the complexity and volume of development activity in Wake County. Your work will directly support teams across the Administration, Planning and Inspections, and Watershed Management divisions. Monitor and reconcile PDS financial activity, ensuring accurate tracking of revenue, expenditures, and project related costs Provide administrative support and quality customer service to PDS staff navigating operational needs including (but not limited to) contracts and purchasing Ensure PDS financial processes and transactions are compliant with Wake County Finance policies and best practices The Senior Accountant must use critical-thinking skills, adapt to change, and provide positive customer service experience to internal and external stakeholders of PDS. The Senior Accountant will collaborate in a fast-paced, evolving environment while producing reliable and accurate work products. About Our Team The Wake County Planning & Development Services Department exists to ensure that growth and development are managed responsibly by preserving the outstanding quality of life that all Wake County residents expect. As the population and economy continue to grow in Wake County, the need for this approach increases. The Department is the County’s leading resource for administering the County’s regulations pertaining to land development. This work is guided by the County’s Unified Development Ordinance, Comprehensive Plan, Stormwater Regulations, and North Carolina Building Code. The Department includes various work groups to advance development in Wake County’s jurisdiction. Those groups include building permitting and inspections, stormwater, watershed management, planning and zoning. The department is also instrumental in convening stakeholders that have common interests in advanced land development projects. The stakeholders may include regional agencies related to transportation, stormwater, watershed management, or other planning efforts. The Basics (Required Education and Experience) Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field Four years of experience in accounting Equivalent education and experience are accepted Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically experience and skill in using Microsoft Excel How Will We Know You're 'The One'?
