Job Description

The Pump Mechanic performs high-quality repairs, testing, and reconfigurations on pumps and various types of rotating equipment, with a strong focus on water market products. This role involves both shop and field work, including teardowns, inspections, troubleshooting, and mechanical assembly, while ensuring all tasks meet established quality standards and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Repair, test, and reconfigure pumps and rotating equipment, with a focus on water market products, to a high quality standard.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, and technical documentation such as drawings to perform required maintenance and service.
• Create thorough inspection and test reports that clearly document findings, work performed, and test results.
• Use pneumatic, power, and hand tools proficiently to perform teardowns, inspections, troubleshooting, voltage conversions, impeller trims and change-outs, and repairs on pumps and related equipment.
• Perform diversified services on pumps and rotating equipment both in the shop and in the field, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
• Assist with removals, installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and services on pumps and rotating equipment at customer sites when required.
• Maintain accurate records of materials, parts, and labor for all jobs and work orders.
• Ensure the quality and quantity of work meets established company standards and performance expectations.
• Manage material usage for orders at an optimal level, remaining mindful of cost without sacrificing quality.
• Interface professionally with internal colleagues, external individuals, and companies as required to support project and service needs.
• Organize and maintain a safe, clean, and well-structured work area by following good housekeeping practices.
• Show initiative by identifying and suggesting improvements to internal processes and workflows.
• Use appropriate protective safety equipment and follow all company safety policies and procedures at all times.
• Properly and safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and cranes as required to move and handle equipment and materials.
• Participate in on-site and off-site training, implement newly acquired skills in daily work, and help train colleagues as needed.
• Manage deadlines and project requirements effectively, ensuring job and performance goals are understood, communicated, and achieved.
• Demonstrate reliable attendance and effective time management to meet day-to-day operational requirements and established standards.
• Handle pressure and conflict positively while maintaining self-confidence, a professional demeanor, and a constructive attitude.
• Apply general rules to specific mechanical and technical problems using deductive reasoning to produce logical and sensible solutions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support shop and field operations.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated experience in pump and rotating equipment repair, including teardowns, inspections, troubleshooting, testing, and reconfigurations.
• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, and technical drawings and documentation.
• Proficient use of pneumatic, power, and hand tools for mechanical assembly and repair work.
• Ability to create clear, thorough inspection and test reports and document work performed accurately.
• Strong communication skills to interact effectively with internal colleagues, supply partners, and customers in both shop and field environments.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently lift up to 50 pounds, with capability to work at various locations when on field assignments.
• Awareness of and adherence to safety procedures when working around hazardous chemicals or materials and varying environmental conditions.
• Effective project fulfillment skills, including managing deadlines, identifying stakeholders, and achieving job and performance goals.
• Reliable time management skills, including consistent attendance and ability to meet daily operational requirements.
• Professionalism in dealing with pressure and conflict, demonstrating self-confidence, a positive attitude, and productive use of time.
• Deductive reasoning ability to apply general rules to specific technical problems and arrive at logical solutions.
• Mechanical aptitude, including knowledge of metric and imperial measurement systems and the ability to perform conversions between them.
• Basic computer skills with working familiarity in MS Office products, particularly Word and Excel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to receive, retain, and apply training on various hand tools and equipment, especially those associated with water market pumps.
• Experience with mechanical assembly, pump assembly, and working with rotating equipment.
• Ability to read and work from schematics and other technical diagrams.
• Comfort working periodic overtime assignments according to operational needs.
• Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and cranes in a safe and compliant manner.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing training and support the development of colleagues by sharing newly acquired skills.

Work Environment

This role involves shop-based work with pumps and rotating equipment used in water and related industrial applications. You will work with pneumatic, power, and hand tools, and may operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and cranes as part of daily tasks. The position requires standing for extended periods and frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds. Environmental conditions can vary, especially at customer sites, and may include exposure to hazardous chemicals or materials, so adherence to safety procedures and use of proper protective equipment is essential. Work hours follow standard shop operations with periodic overtime based on business needs, and you are expected to maintain a clean, organized work area in line with good housekeeping practices

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Henrico, VA.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
