MS Nurse for the 26/27 SY

Nurse

Implement district health services program to best meet the needs of the student population on the assigned campus. Provide health services to students. Supervises and trains assigned staff on providing care and services. Promote health and safety education.

Graduate of an accredited professional registered nurse education program

Valid unrestricted registered nurse license (RN) from the Texas Board of Nursing

Texas Department of State Health Services certification in vision, hearing, spinal and acanthosis screening to be successfully completed within the first three months of employment

Current CPR/AED/Bleeding Control certification for Health Care providers within the first week of employment

Two or more years of successful nursing experience in a pediatric, community or adult acute care setting

Knowledge of basic first aid

Proficient computer and file maintenance

Ability to implement policies and procedures

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work cooperatively with others.

Provide direct care using professional assessment skills, the nursing process, individualized healthcare plans and established department school health protocols.

Collaborate closely with the campus principal, school counselor, teachers, parents, food services, and other staff regarding the health needs of the general school population and those students with identified health conditions.

Initiate and maintain accurate student health records, including immunization records, medication administration records, and individualized student health care plans.

Establish effective procedures for carrying out mandatory screening programs and required reports.

Communicate with parents regarding individual students on every ill or injured clinic visit.

Attend Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings of students with identified health needs and develop an Individual Health Plan.

Collaborate with school psychologist/special education diagnostician regarding implementation of health-related Individualized Education Plan (IEP) items.

Educate students, faculty and/or staff, as needed, on health-related topics

Supervise and train health assistants, and/or unlicensed assistive personnel designated by the campus principal to have responsibility for assisting students with health needs.

Perform skilled nursing procedures and emergency care as needed in accordance with approved policies.

Educate teachers and other staff members about the nature and educational relevance of chronic and acute health conditions.

Accept and work effectively with people of diverse culture and backgrounds.

Comply with the Texas Nurse Practice Act, Texas Education Agency regulations, Department of State Health Services regulations, School Board policies, Health Services' Policies and Procedures, and Employee Handbook

Recognize and maintain professional boundaries in all aspects of a nurse's role.

Arrange and prepare for health care delivery by appropriately trained and authorized substitutes and unlicensed assistive personnel (UAPs) when absent

Protect confidentiality of student health records.

Coordinates and leads annual Bleeding Control classes for grades 7-12 for the appropriate feeder patterns.

Serves as the AED/CPR Responder team Captain.

Provides nursing services to other campuses based upon absences and acuity as determined by Health Services administration.

Oversees Acanthosis Nigricans program, including training, certification, and auditing of yearly submission for state reporting.

Develops student health management plans for Project Search students; contacts all stakeholders including but not limited to, parents, high school campus nurses and Project Search staff to assure expectations are reviewed and clearly defined in plan; trains Project Search staff in medical procedures; attends ARDs and 504 meetings.

Standard medical clinic equipment including automated external defibrillator (AED); special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension

Constant hearing, seeing, reaching, speaking, and standing

Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non ambulatory students

Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases

Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

All employees are to follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

This position is an in-person job and is to be performed at the location specified. It does not qualify for remote work or work from home status.
