About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 1 year of experience with intermediate care and cardiac patient population. Experience with titrating medications. Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips. Description: The stepdown unit consists of 18 beds. The nurse to patient ratio is typically 1:4 and 1:3 for post-surgical patients during the first 24 hours. Patients include those requiring intermediate care and downgraded patients from the intensive care unit. The patient population often includes those with conditions such as cardiac and vascular issues, including chest pain, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and others. The unit supports various cardiac procedures and patients recovering from such. Registered Nurses are responsible for managing and titrating medications such as Amiodarone, Nitro, Nicardipine, Epinephrine, and Cardizem among others for blood pressure management. Charge nurses are present on each shift, though they rarely take an assignment. Patient care technicians are available, with a typical ratio of 1:18. Hospitalists and intensivists are on-site 24/7, with additional cardiology support available after hours. Respiratory therapy services are also available on-site 24/7. The unit utilizes remote telemetry technicians along with tele monitoring capabilities, but Registered Nurses are required to interpret their own telemetry strips. Shifts are organized by management, with no self-scheduling available. Weekend shifts are required every other week. Navy blue scrubs are the designated dress code for the unit. Additional time off requests must be submitted upfront, and late requests will not be accommodated. The facility reserves the right to cancel a certain number of shifts during the contract period. The charting system used in this unit is EPIC.
