Principal Architect - Healthcare

Your Key Responsibilities Lead architectural projects for major healthcare designs, typically 80,000–800,000 sqft. Regularly interact with architectural and engineering leaders across North America to ensure integrated design execution. Serve as a local and regional leader, representing healthcare design and reinforcing the Stantec brand. Grow and sustain revenue within your region and across North America, attracting top‑tier clients and achieving top‑line growth for the health sector. Collaborate with technical and managerial project leads to meet key operational performance metrics, including financial results and improved health outcomes. Lead local and regional business‑development pursuits, including pre‑positioning and strategic proposal development across interior design, medical planning, architecture, and engineering. Act as a seller‑doer by generating work, building long‑term client relationships, and delivering consistent value to Stantec. Develop and maintain industry relationships and visibility with clients, sub‑consultants, competitors, team‑building partners, and potential recruits. Contribute to Stantec’s thought leadership by sharing knowledge and innovation at client engagements, industry events, and professional networks. Mentor and coach next‑generation designers and thought leaders, while also receiving guidance from senior team members. Your Capabilities and Credentials Recent healthcare experience with a focus on acute, outpatient, women’s health, behavioral/mental health, cancer/proton therapy, or long‑term care projects. Knowledge of project‑delivery innovations such as IPD, APD, modular approaches, and related advancements. Demonstrated design and planning acumen and leadership on major projects. Ability to lead cross‑functional teams across various healthcare project types and scales, balancing a diversified book of business. Technical understanding of architecture for health facilities, with direct experience in programming, site selection, core‑and‑shell, fit‑out, and interior design. Experience with strategic pre‑positioning for pursuits, including engagement strategies, responding to expressions of interest, statements of qualification, RFPs, formal negotiations, and fee/contract discussions. Strong business‑development skills and a proven record of generating work and creating long‑term client value. An entrepreneurial orientation and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by consulting‑services providers. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational, coordination, leadership, team‑building, and engagement abilities. Knowledge of market‑assessment techniques, insights, and the ability to construct aspirational yet achievable business plans. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Education and Experience Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture or equivalent. Experience with HCAI / OSHPD regulations. Licensed Architect in the state of California. Minimum of 15 years of experience in the AEC industry. LEED AP Credential preferred. Pay Range Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & various CA, NJ areas – $141,500.00 – $212,200.00 annually. Locations in WA, DC & various CA, MA areas – $151,700.00 – $227,600.00 annually. Pay Transparency In compliance with pay‑transparency laws, the ranges above are provided for locations where required. Actual compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles may be bonus eligible and part‑time compensation is pro‑rated.
