Job Title: Test Operator Job Description

The Test Operator plays a key role in ensuring the quality and functionality of electronic devices such as TV modems and cable boxes. In this role, you test, monitor, and update assigned equipment using a dedicated testing center, carefully documenting any issues or discrepancies to support consistent product performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Set up and connect TV modems, cable boxes, and related devices to the testing center, which consists of metal shelving that can hold 20 or more units at a time.

• Run tests on devices to verify functionality, performance, and software status according to established procedures and step-by-step instructions.

• Perform software updates on devices as needed, ensuring that all units receive the correct versions and that updates complete successfully.

• Monitor devices during testing to identify any malfunctions, irregularities, or performance issues.

• Accurately document test results, issues, and discrepancies in the appropriate systems or logs to support quality control and troubleshooting.

• Follow detailed testing protocols and quality standards to maintain consistency and reliability across all tested devices.

• Perform repetitive testing and updating tasks while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Collaborate with team members and communicate clearly about device status, issues found, and any concerns that may impact production or quality.

• Handle devices and equipment safely, including lifting and moving units as required, while adhering to all safety guidelines.

• Move between standing, sitting, and walking as needed throughout the workday to support testing activities and workflow.

Essential Skills

• Ability to configure and handle cable devices and electronic equipment.

• Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate simple software interfaces and input information accurately.

• Ability to follow clear, step-by-step instructions and established testing procedures.

• Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in testing and documentation.

• Ability to perform repetitive tasks while consistently maintaining quality standards.

• Good communication skills to share information and updates with team members.

• Effective teamwork skills and willingness to collaborate in a production and testing environment.

• Ability to stand, sit, or move throughout the workday as required by testing activities.

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

• Willingness to learn electronics testing processes; no previous experience required as training will be provided.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using computers, electronics, gaming systems, or other technology devices.

• Previous experience in a warehouse, distribution, or production environment.

• Background in quality inspection or quality control work.

• Experience with assembly or handling of electronic components and devices.

• Prior work in technical support or troubleshooting technology products.

• Familiarity with electronics testing or working as a device tester is a plus.

Work Environment

This role is based in a climate-controlled distribution facility that includes both heated and air-conditioned areas. Some sections of the facility may be warmer due to controlled heating used to test modems in conditions that simulate confined spaces, such as entertainment centers or behind furniture. Work is performed on a structured schedule from Monday to Friday, with two primary shifts available: first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. and second shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:40 p.m. The environment involves working around shelving units and testing stations designed to hold multiple electronic devices at once. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided as needed, including gloves and safety glasses, and tennis shoes are suitable attire for this setting. The facility emphasizes safety, comfort, and efficient workflow to support consistent testing operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Memphis, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.21 - $16.16/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
