Founding Engineer | Series B Virtual Mental Health Clinic | NYC I'm working with a Series B-backed virtual mental health clinic for children, young adults, and families, on a mission to fix a broken system: 1 in 5 kids in the U.S. has a diagnosable mental health disorder, yet about half who need care never get it. They're hiring their first onshore senior engineer - a Founding Engineer who will sit beside the CEO and lead engineering as the company scales past Series B. About the role Until now, engineering has been offshore. The team ships fast, but they're ready for a senior technical leader in the building who can accelerate the roadmap, make architectural calls as they grow, and lead the adoption of AI across the organization. This is a player-coach role that leans heavily player. You'll write production code on the most important systems, and you'll also set engineering standards, direct the offshore team, and shape how engineering operates as they build out an onshore team over the next year. What you’ll do Own architecture across telehealth, EHR, therapist onboarding, patient dashboard, and AI usage Help make build vs. buy calls - they’re thoughtful about what to build vs. outsource Stay hands‑on as a top individual contributor on the hardest, highest‑stakes problems Direct and level up the offshore engineering team; establish how they work (code review, testing, on‑call, incident response) Own reliability and security for clinical systems, including practices that hold up to HIPAA and payer scrutiny Help build the onshore engineering org as the company grows, and set the culture and standards a larger team will inherit Partner directly with the CEO, translating clinical, growth, and operations needs into technical plans About you 6+ years building production software, including time as the most senior engineer in the room, owning systems end to end Deep full-stack strength - comfortable owning everything from schema to UI You've led while staying hands‑on: set standards, mentored engineers, raised quality, without stepping away from the code Experience working with distributed or offshore teams, or strong instincts for how to make that work well You've built in regulated, high‑reliability, or data‑sensitive environments (healthcare, fintech, or similar) and take security and correctness seriously You have strong product instincts - you can describe what you shipped and why it mattered to users, not just how it was built 3 days/week in‑person, NYC Must be based in the U.S. with work authorization #J-18808-Ljbffr evoke
