Education Specialist Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital

Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital provides specialized care for adolescents diagnosed with mental health disorders. We are looking for a positive and energetic teacher to work collaboratively with a team of educators. This unit will work closely with community partners and collaborate with our adolescent’s community schools. This person must have an interest in helping adolescents with mental health disorders while maximizing each student’s potential.Our educators provide instruction to youth in our Inpatient and Residential Programs guided by a Missouri DESE course of study, but have the ability, as well, to exercise creativity and flexibility in adapting coursework to fit the needs and abilities of the students you teach. Your time with the students allows you to see the difference we make in the lives of the children in our care. As a teacher at Hawthorn, you will receive ongoing guidance and training with the ability to collaborate with peers, work intensively with other disciplines, and receiveclassroomsupport;allwhileproviding youtheopportunitytoflourish inyourprofessional in your role with the students and the facility. Responsibilities Individualize instruction tomeetstudentneedsinamixedplacement,mixedabilityclassroom of 4-8 students. Revise,developandimplementIndividualEducationPlans(IEPs)andSection504Plans. Attendandcontributetomulti-disciplinarymeetingsregardingstudentsinyour classroom. Developtreatmentgoalsforclassroomuseandreportonthose goalsweekly. Modelandteachsocialskillstothe studentsinyour classroom. Keepattendance andacademicrecordsandreportonthose recordsatspecifictimes. Thequalifiedcandidatewillhave atminimumaBachelor’sDegree inEducationfroman accredited university and have 4 years of post-baccalaureate teaching experience in a school accredited by a state approved governing agency. The candidate must possess a Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Lifetime or Career Continuous Professional Certification (CCPC) noting an area of special education. Theidealcandidatewillpossessthefollowingskills: AbilitytowriteeffectiveIndividualizedEducationPlans(IEPs)withlimited assistance. AbasicknowledgeofMicrosoftProductsespeciallywordandexcel Reports to the Education Program Manager and the Chief of Clinical Services.
