Business Development Counsel

Biogen seeks an experienced Business Development Counsel to provide strategic legal guidance on complex transactions and partnerships in biotechnology. Reporting to the Chief Corporation Counsel in Cambridge, MA, this role involves leading due diligence, negotiating agreements, and collaborating across functional teams to support the company's growth and innovation initiatives.

Responsibilities

Lead legal due diligence and provide counsel on transaction structures and business terms
Prepare term sheets and negotiate definitive agreements aligned with company objectives
Serve as primary attorney on strategic deals throughout the transaction lifecycle
Collaborate with business development, finance, tax, R&D, and commercial teams
Manage outside counsel engagement, budget oversight, and quality assurance

Requirements

Minimum 12 years corporate law experience in law firms or in-house legal departments
Expertise with license agreements, collaborations, venture capital, and M&A transactions
Juris Doctor degree with active bar licensure
Strong business counseling presence and decision-making judgment
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Demonstrated ability to manage legal risk and business practices
Local Cambridge, MA candidates only

Compensation: $226,000-$310,750 base
