Medical Director Physician

A mission-driven healthcare organization in rural Northern California, about an hour north of Redding, is seeking a full-time Optometrist to launch and lead its first in-house eye care service.


With high local demand and an established patient need, this is a rare opportunity for an Optometrist to build a new department from the ground up while providing essential eye care to an underserved community.

Position Highlights:

• Launch and lead a new in-house Optometry Department
• High patient demand with an established community need for eye care
• Provide comprehensive eye exams and manage a diverse range of ocular conditions
• Diagnose and manage ocular disease and prescribe corrective lenses
• Co-manage surgical cases in collaboration with ophthalmology
• Opportunity to shape clinical services, workflows, and department growth
• Multidisciplinary environment with access to primary care, dental, behavioral health, and specialty services
• Flexible schedule with no weekends, holidays, or call
• Community outreach and provider meeting participation

Compensation & Benefits:

• $180K $200K salary , depending on experience
• $15K sign-on bonus
• Up to $5K relocation stipend
• Paid continuing education and licensure fees

Qualifications:

• Doctor of Optometry degree
• Active California optometry license
• Commitment to serving underserved populations
• Experience or interest in full-scope optometry and ocular disease management preferred
