Material/Process Inspector I Position ID: 2601237 Location: North Harris Area Office Laboratory, Humble, Texas Job Overview: The Material/Process Inspector I performs material testing in laboratories, plants, roadways, and at points of supply. This position reports to a licensed Professional Engineer who has full authority to approve all work performed. Responsibilities Performs material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants, and/or at points of supply. Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement. Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers and suppliers. Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete. Maintains and calibrates equipment. Performs tests and inspection duties. Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining causes for material problems. Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing. Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses, and project sites to monitor status of programs. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent in general high school studies. Experience: No experience required (experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license; ACI Cncrt Fld Test Tech‑Grd I; HMA Roadway Spec‑IB; Cert Soils & Flex Bases SB202; Cert Soils & Flex Bases SB101; Cert Soils & Flex Bases SB102; Cert Soils & Flex Bases SB201; Cert Soils & Flex Bases SB103; ACI Cncrt Strength Test Tech. Attention to detail and review of information to identify errors and problems; ensuring consistency and clarity of information. Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry. Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems. Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others. Exercise logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; make decisions that support business objectives and goals. Physical Requirements Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Subject to hazards such as moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals. Subject to atmospheric conditions including fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Subject to exposure to oils and other cutting fluids. Required to wear protective gear—respirator, hard hat, or other devices. Light work: lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs. Kneeling—bending legs at knee to come to rest on knees. Hearing: perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication. Close visual acuity—using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts. This job is physically demanding and requires a pre‑employment physical. Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions and is subject to random drug testing. (Medical marijuana is not a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result.)
