Log Truck Drivers Wanted for Mendocino Forest Products (MFP) in Ukiah, CA. This is a non-exempt position at an Hourly Rate of $31.01 and includes full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K match and company paid life insurance.

The Mendocino Companies own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant.

Responsibilities

The Log Truck Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting logs from sites to designated company locations throughout Mendocino and Humboldt Counties. This role requires adherence to all safety regulations, load securement standards, and company operating procedures to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drives truck and trailer to haul logs from logging sites to log deck or mill.
• Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skill in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations: such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, or in tight loading/unloading areas off highway and private dirt roads.
• Abides by all company DOT, State and Federal transportation safety regulations.
• May need to cut or remove pieces of bark from load prior to transporting using various small tools including hand ax.
• Ensures load is properly secured and weight is evenly distributed on truck and trailer. Checks binders and wrappers to ensure load is secure.
• Inspects tractor, trailer and equipment for defects and safe operating condition before (pre-trip) and after trips as applicable also when stopped during the workday and submits a driver's daily vehicle inspection report on the condition no later than the end of each day.
• Performs basic preventative maintenance to ensure fluid levels and tire pressures are maintained.
• Brake adjustments are the responsibility of driver to ensure they are properly adjusted daily.
• Maintains records required for compliance with State and Federal regulations including driver's logs, records of fuel purchases, mileage records and other records required by law, or by Company standards.
• Ensure that all shipping documentation (bills of landing, weight tickets, etc.) required to move with shipment are available for inspection, that appropriate paperwork accompanies shipments when delivered, and that signed bills of lading for proof of delivery are turned in daily.
• Reports all accidents/incidents involving driver or company equipment immediately after incident occurs to Supervisor.
• Promptly report any delays due to breakdown, weather or traffic conditions, or other emergencies. Reports if there are regular delays or abnormal delays in getting unloaded or loaded, or in the event of irregularities relating to pick up or delivery of logs.
• Uses Company Radio and/or Central Band (CB) radio ensuring appropriate communication and language.
• Position travels outside the local area but usually within the state up to 95% of the time.

Qualifications

• This position requires a Class "A" Driver's License, current DOT physical examination card, and clean DMV record.
• Log hauling experience is highly preferred.
• Ability to read and understand safety rules, work instructions, procedures, and basic written communications, and use good judgment to complete assigned tasks.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to utilize an on-board computer.

• Remain seated and alert while operating a commercial vehicle for extended periods, up to 12 hours per shift (intrastate).
• Frequently enter and exit the truck cab (approximately 810 or more times per day), climbing steps and using handholds safely.
• Frequently bend, twist, climb, squat, crouch, kneel, reach (including overhead), push, pull, and maintain balance while performing job duties.
• Secure and remove loads by handling chains, binders, wrappers, and related equipment, requiring bending, lifting, and pulling.
• Occasionally use hand tools, a shovel, or a double-bit axe to perform job-related tasks, including adjusting trailer brakes or clearing work areas.
• Lift, carry, and move materials or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds.
• Walk on a variety of surfaces, including wood, dirt, asphalt, and metal, which may be uneven, wet, or slippery.
• Spend approximately 85% of the workday sitting and 15% walking and performing physical tasks.
• Must possess sufficient visual acuity, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to safely operate commercial vehicles and perform inspections.

• Work is performed primarily outdoors and while operating a commercial truck in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and changing road conditions.
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and heavy equipment in loading, unloading, and transportation environments.
• Frequently exposed to truck vibration, dust, dirt, mud, and slippery surfaces.
• Work involves travel on public roads, highways, logging roads, and industrial sites where road conditions may be rough, uneven, or hazardous.
• Noise levels are frequently loud due to truck operation, traffic, equipment, and loading activities.
• Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when outside the vehicle or as dictated by company policy and job site requirements.
