Bioinformatics Scientist (52832)

Position Objective: The Bioinformatics Scientist will provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) within the National Institutes of Health.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with staff on a multi-disciplinary study of human immune aging 2
• Perform computational analyses and modeling of large biological data sets including Next Generation Sequencing NGS 1
• Generate and analyze high-throughput data, including data from bulk and single cellRNA-seq, ATAC-seq, DNA methylation, proteomic flow cytometry and CyTOFphenotyping 3
• Collaborate with staff to establish innovative software and computational tools to enable the Center for Immune Aging to perform complex computational data analyses
• Train and mentor staff in the use of software and computational tools
• Collaborate with experimentalists and computational biologists to develop new computational tools to answer research questions of interest that pertain to inflammation and immune dysfunction that occurs with human aging
• Collect, analyze and interpret data; prepare reports and summaries based on results and findings
• Attend laboratory meetings; present data for staff discussion
• Work products and documents related to collecting, analyzing and interpreting data; prepare reports and summaries based on results and findings; attend laboratory meetings; present data for staff discussion.
• Work products and documents related to training and mentoring staff in the use of software and computational tools; develop new computational tools to answer research questions of interest that pertain to inflammation and immune dysfunction that occurs with human aging.
• Work products and documents related to generating and analyzing high-throughput data; establish innovative software and computational tools to enable the Center for Immune Aging to perform complex computational data analyses.
• Work products and documents related to training and mentoring
• Work products and documents related to collaborating with staff on a multi-disciplinary study of human immune aging; perform computational analyses and modeling of large biological data sets including Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).

Basic Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, and Biophysics
• Skilled in MS Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff
• Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
