About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown/Medsurg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nightshift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (7 PM - 7:30 AM) Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: MUST HAVE EPIC EXPERIENCE Ability to handle a 6 patient (med-surg) or a 3 patient (stepdown) assignment Description: 29 bed unit currently under construction. All beds will be step down equipped with an opening in the first quarter of 2026. Ratios for stepdown are 3:1, and for the floor, they are 6:1. Flex unit serves both floor and step-down patients based on patient and hospital needs. Diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses. RNs will have orders written to titrate drips. Common titratable and/or set rate drips include heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, anti-arrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, and morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCAs. Charge RNs and House Supervisors are available 24/7. Charge RNs may take an assignment when the unit first opens, but the goal is to run with a free charge RN. There are Clinical Associates (CAs) on this unit. The ratio for Clinical Associates is 1:10. CPAP and BiPAP equipment will be used on the floor and stepdown. High flow and ventilators will be present in stepdown; adjustments for vents go to ICU. A remote telemetry surveillance center is available for monitoring. RNs are not expected to read their own strips. Telemonitoring equipment used is Phillips. Shift scheduling is for 12-hour shifts, with block scheduling requested but not guaranteed. Agency RN positions are posted as weekend positions. Expect to work about half of all recognized holidays. No call or standby requirement exists. The first to float or be pulled to other floor/stepdown units when necessary. Scrub color consists of any combination of royal blue and white. Cancellation policy: 2 shifts for 13-week assignment and 1 shift for assignments less than 13 weeks.
