MRI Technologist - Pediatrics

The Pediatric MRI Technologist is responsible for performing magnetic resonance imaging scans on patients from neonates through age 18, ensuring age-appropriate care and patient comfort throughout the procedure. This role involves operating Siemens MRI scanners, coordinating with physicians for diagnostic imaging, maintaining safety and cleanliness of the scanning environment, and adhering to all MRI safety policies. The technologist must be skilled in patient preparation, screening, and documentation, with the ability to identify contraindications and determine when sedation or anesthesia is needed. Responsibilities:
- Operate Siemens MRI scanners efficiently to perform diagnostic imaging on pediatric patients.
- Prepare patients for scans, explain procedures to alleviate anxiety, and provide age-appropriate care.
- Coordinate with physicians to ensure timely receipt and accuracy of imaging results.
- Maintain a clean and safe scanning facility adhering to all MRI safety guidelines.
- Document all procedures accurately while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Screen patients properly to identify contraindications for safe scanning.
- Adjust scanning parameters according to patient age and condition.
- Determine when scans must be stopped due to motion and when sedation or anesthesia is required.
- Perform patient care tasks as needed during imaging procedures.
- Associate degree in magnetic resonance imaging or radiology.
- Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- New York State Radiologic Technologist License (must obtain prior to start if not currently held).
- Minimum of two years of MRI technologist experience including Siemens scanner experience.
- At least six months of pediatric MRI experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Experience working in a Level 1 Trauma Center environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and familiarity with medical terminology.
- Prior experience scanning neonates and pediatric patients.
- Experience coordinating with interdisciplinary teams in a pediatric setting.
- Comfort and skill in patient communication to reduce anxiety during scans.
- No on-call responsibilities.
- Must adhere strictly to MRI safety policies and procedures.
- Comfort and capability to work with pediatric patients including neonates.
- Must be willing to obtain required licensure before start date if not currently licensed.
- Monday through Friday, 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM with some schedule flexibility.
- Holiday work scheduled according to unit needs.
- No on-call shifts required.
