Job Overview The Department of Urology at Stanford University and Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) seeks a urologic oncologist to join the Department as Assistant Professor in the University Medical Line and a staff surgeon at VAPAHCS. We are particularly interested in candidates who possess outstanding surgical skills in both open and robotic surgery, and who will pursue scholarship in basic/translational, clinical, or health services research. The candidate will have a full-time academic appointment at Stanford University School of Medicine and a full or part-time clinical appointment at VAPAHCS. Qualifications The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Individuals appointed as Assistant Professors will have completed their house staff training and, where appropriate, postdoctoral fellowship training. They must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in the overall mix of contributions in clinical care, teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine appropriate to the programmatic need upon which the appointment will be based. There should be evidence that candidates have the promise to attain regional recognition for excellence in the overall mix of contributions. If these individuals have not had formal teaching experience, they should have demonstrated during their house staff and fellowship training a commitment to teaching, and they should have the potential to meet or exceed acceptable standards in teaching. The successful applicant should be board‑certified or board‑eligible with an MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent) and fellowship training in urologic oncology. We expect the successful candidate to develop a robust research program with the goal to attain national recognition and independent extramural funding. The candidate will engage in teaching and serve as an integral member of our training programs. A track record of innovative peer‑reviewed publications and extramural career development awards is highly desired. About VAPAHCS VAPAHCS is a major academic affiliate of Stanford University School of Medicine and consists of 3 inpatient facilities located at Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Livermore, in addition to 4 community‑based outpatient clinics in San Jose, Capitola, Marina, and Fremont. VAPAHCS operates approximately 600 beds and serves more than 67,000 unique Veterans. The reach of the VAPAHCS has been extended through the Community Resource Hub, which leverages tele‑urology to bring specialty urologic care to rural and remote Veterans across California, Nevada, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands. VAPAHCS operates one of the largest integrated health care systems in VA in terms of specialized programs, research, and graduate medical education. VAPAHCS’ Research Program is one of the top two in Veterans Health Administration with annual funding of approximately $91M. The Urology Section is based within the Surgical Service and has an established track record of excellence across clinical, research, and educational domains. Compensation The expected base pay range for this position is $372,000 - $399,000. This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
