Prepare patients, explain procedures, ensure safety and comfort, and provide patient education relative to testing. Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, select appropriate transducers, and assess image quality; differentiate artifacts from pathology. Assist with general ultrasound interventional procedures (e.g., biopsy) and provide nursing/technical support as needed. Coordinate with radiologists, nurses, and other team members; document findings in the EMR and communicate essential results to referring physicians. Schedule, track, and review imaging studies, verify orders/diagnoses, manage add-ons, and maintain accurate records and equipment performance. Requirements License in the State of Maine to practice as a sonographer; active status required. ARDMS registration or equivalent credential; graduate of an ARDMS-accredited school of sonography. Associate degree is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the work location. Grayscale image discrimination proficiency; ability to work effectively in a high-stress clinical environment. Ability to work in a hospital setting and collaborate with a multidisciplinary imaging team. Notes on Credentials and Scheduling This assignment requires on-call coverage for weekends/holidays (7am–9pm) with no weeknight or overnight call. Up to 16 hours of orientation are unpaid.
