Forensic Psychologist I — Remote & Flexible Schedule

PSYCHOLOGIST I - Forensic Evaluator - Statewide (Hybrid) The position is a hybrid work arrangement with remote work and on‑site reporting for two days per week, subject to change based on business demands. A residency waiver is available; applicants from outside Colorado must relocate to Colorado before the start date at their own expense. The selected candidate may be located at either the Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan or Pueblo. About this Position This position ensures the quality and timely completion of court‑ordered evaluations and restoration reports for Colorado courts. The forensic evaluator, a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist, performs competency evaluations, restoration to legal competency evaluations, and sanity/mental condition evaluations when qualified. The evaluator provides written reports to courts and relevant attorneys, and may testify as an expert witness. Job Duties Complete 12 court‑ordered evaluations for competency or restoration of competency per month, with a minimum of 6 being in‑jail competency evaluations. Prepare written reports detailing opinions on competency, sanity/mental condition, and if incompetent, barriers to competency, including required information under C.R.S 16‑8.5 and the Consent Decree. Respond to subpoena and testify to provide the court with information regarding their opinion. Conduct evaluations in hospitals, jails, or the community as specified in court orders. Request collateral information as needed and seek consultation from supervisor or colleagues on complex cases. Testify in Court as Expert Witness Develop and deliver expert testimony to courts regarding legal questions of competency, restoration, and, where applicable, sanity and mental condition. Remain neutral and provide testimony on clinical and forensic opinions and the basis for those opinions. Explain instruments and collateral sources used during evaluation. Mandatory Training and Case Presentation Attend annual and ongoing competency training and forensic services mandated training sessions to stay informed of current trends and research. Present and provide feedback to peers during case presentations and may submit evaluations for quality assurance or peer review. Other Duties as Assigned Perform tasks or special assignments designated by OCFMH that are not specified in the above duties. Minimum Qualifications Current, valid licensure as a psychologist from the Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners. One (1) year of experience as a licensed psychologist or permitted psychologist candidate. Preferred Qualifications Experience in forensic evaluations. Experience conducting and writing evaluations of competency to proceed. Ability to work independently with minimal direction. Clear and effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to use independent judgment to meet deadlines. Conditions of Employment Background and reference checks including CBI name check, fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, professional license verification, PREA, Trails check, and CAPS. Possession of a valid, unrestricted U.S. Driver's License. Extensive travel between offices, Colorado Mental Hospital in Pueblo and Fort Logan, and various detention facilities. Pre‑employment physical TB test. Must be 21 years of age or older. Former State employees who were terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose and provide explanation in application.
