Department of Aging Human Services Associate - MAP Specialist

Job Overview Department of Aging is hiring a Maryland Access Point (MAP) Specialist. The position offers Pay Schedule I, Grade 25, with a 35‑hour work week. Job Purpose Under general supervision, the MAP Specialist provides information, referrals, and assistance to older adults, individuals with disabilities, family members, and professionals in the Maryland Access Point Office. Essential Job Duties Provide information, referrals, and assistance to older adults, individuals with disabilities, family members, and professionals. Enter consumer and statistical information for reports into the Wellsky database. Complete consumer intakes for various Department of Aging programs and forward referrals. Respond to inquiries about the Long Term Services & Supports (LTSS) system and Level 1 Screenings. Maintain expertise in the field of Information and Referral, and Options Counseling. Assist in the operations of other MAP services, including the Loan Closet, Speakers Bureau, and updating MAP materials. Triage crises with consumers and refer to the appropriate resources. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of theories and principles of aging. Knowledge of issues and resources for people with disabilities. Basic knowledge of community, human, and social services assistance programs. Excellent communication skills, including active listening, redirection, de‑scalation, and summarizing. Assessment skills for evaluating customers’ situations. Problem‑solving ability. Computer skills – databases, Word documents, email, and online forms. Work effectively in a fast‑paced setting. Handle difficult customers and those experiencing a crisis. Enter and maintain client information in electronic records. Make public presentations. Interpret federal, state, and local regulations, procedures, and guidelines for human services professionals. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a social or behavioral science. Experience described in the essential duties may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis, up to a maximum of four years, for the required education. Proof of education beyond high school must be submitted with each application. Must possess a valid driver’s license equivalent to a Non‑Commercial, Class C Maryland driver’s license. Experience in information and referral, intake and referral services, or related counseling roles is preferred. Professional certifications in information and referral or options counseling are advantageous.
