Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to a diverse patient population in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. This role requires proficient clinical skills including patient assessment, medication administration, and emergency interventions such as TPA administration and therapeutic hypothermia. The nurse will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, maintain accurate EPIC charting, and ensure patient safety and comfort during their care. A minimum of two years of ER experience and multiple certifications are required to meet the demands of this role.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to adult and pediatric patients in a 55-bed Emergency Department with a patient ratio of 4:1.
• Perform patient assessments, triage, and initiate appropriate interventions including IV starts and telemetry monitoring.
• Administer medications, including TPA, and manage therapeutic hypothermia protocols.
• Document all patient care activities accurately using EPIC electronic medical records.
• Collaborate with LVNs and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Respond to high-acuity cases such as STEMI, sepsis, stroke, and forensic cases with appropriate clinical interventions.
• Maintain compliance with all hospital policies and clinical protocols.
• Participate in ongoing education and pass required competency exams including EKG interpretation during orientation.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room Registered Nurse experience.
• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of employment.
• Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIH Stroke Scale, PALS.
• Proficiency in EPIC electronic medical records system.
• Skills in IV start, telemetry monitoring, and patient triage.
• Successful completion of EKG competency exam during orientation.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Certification in MAB (Medication Administration by Blood).
• Certification in CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention).
• Experience with ventilator management.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.

Special Considerations:

• Work in a Magnet-designated hospital Emergency Department.
• Care for a high volume of patients including sexual assault forensic cases (travelers do not perform forensic exams).
• LVN coverage is provided for RN breaks.
• No OB/GYN cases are handled in this unit.
• Weekend work requirement: 6 shifts every 6-week block including Saturdays and Sundays.
• Maximum of 4 consecutive days off allowed under RTO policy.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of three 12-hour mid shifts per week.
• Shift times are mid-shift hours, scheduled to meet department needs.
• Weekend shifts are mandatory as per the 6-week block schedule.
